Water dripping down rear cabin glass into engine bay

Recommended Posts

Is this normal? I picked up my Evora yesterday but today it rained all day. I went out for a drive with my daughter this evening and noticed that water from the roof is running down the outside of the rear cabin glass into the engine bay. I suspect a duff seal somewhere as the trim in the engine bay was damaged when I looked at the car last week.

I haven't studied it yet but I think there is a black trim behind the roof but before the rear hatch. I think it's getting in there.

Any help or tips would be appreciated.

David

Water drips through the mesh on mine when parked in the rain, i just figured it was normal because mesh has holes in it......

Er, they all do that, sir...

It's the holes in the roof, I suspect...

The mesh thing, with the holes in it...

Probably.

There is water spray coming through the mesh that is dripping down there.

Mines different. When my car is stood in the rain then I start to drive away, the water runs off the back of the roof and into the engine (quite a lot and not spray). I am not even going over 20mph.

I think it's the water curtain as previously suggested. I will remove that trim in a couple of weeks and investigate it.

Unfortunately mine's a 2009 car thus no manufacturer's warranty. I did however get a 12 month premium warranty but to be honest, I like tinkering on cars and I am pretty handy. It would be probably easier if I had a look at it rather than drive 130 miles to where I bought it from and have to organise transport back etc.

Besides, I am starting to lose a bot of faith in the said dealer as they don't appear to have serviced the car properly. I'd be lucky if they have even changed the oil...

Handbrake handle is way too high and needs immediate adjustment, various lights not working, door/boot locks and hinges need greasing. I've done but the handbrake which my local Lotus specialist will sort out on Saturday, along with finishing the service.

Be careful removing the cosmetic roof panel as it does become brittle due to the heat cycles it goes through.

And be careful retightening the screws. Don't just pull them tight else you may also break the panel. They pull the cover into position and require a good amount of fiddling.
