Who says the Evora is not practical? It's virtually a family car!

Hi all,

I am on a quest to prove that my Evora is still practical and can be used everyday, so I took my first trip to the tip!

I have been clearing my garden behind my garage today. A slide, trampoline protector, dolls house tent and bits of wood and plastic pipe.

In fairness, I did have to cut up the slide and put it in rubble bags but I'd probably do the same on my Audi as the old slide was full of crap! All in all 7 bags full, two in the boot, three in back seat and two in front seat and footwell.

At the tip (recycling centre for those young folk), the recycling engineers loved my car and the fact I was attempting such a journey. It caused quite a stir!

Leaving the tip was a little tricky as they have made the public access into two very steep roads. I was worried about grounding my front bumper, so I went through an emergency slip road and out of the trade exit!

Regards,

David

Fair play :)

I'm always paranoid of punctures when visiting the tip, so always use the missus's car ;)

You'll gain confidence in the ground clearance. It is surprisingly what it will go over without grounding. One of our office car parks slopes down both sides to the gutter quite steeply and I am always surprised it clears.

Blessed with the competence to be a slave to the incapable.

Glad your enjoying it.

I'm almost a full year in, it's perfect.

Everyone must now be converted:-

There will always be one or two non believers! :-D

Only problem is I'm addicted to buying cars... Looking into a Mk 1 Mini Cooper for fun :-)

Hi auRogue,

Each day I am liking my Evora. I know the it's not the best built quality car out there but it's much better than my Esprit and I've owend that for 9 years now! I love the Lotus brand as it's different and focuses on the driver, handling, performance and styling.

The difference is that when something rattles a bit or an electric component doesn't work first time or the Bluetooth disconnects, I don't mind and nurse it better again. If the slightest noise or something doesn't work on my Audi then it really pisses me off. Don't ask why I am like this but I guess the Lotus brand is only for certain people?

superdavelotus,

I agree with you 100%. When you look at the technical queries and concerns on the Evora section, it's almost exclusively full of fairly trivial matters such as the odd misty headlamp, damp carpet, or problem with the accent lighting or ICE.

Battle-hardened Lotus owners of old can only dream of having such problems! Click over to any of the older model forums and you'll find threads about cambelt replacement, knackered turbos, blown headgaskets, engine rebuilds, suspension overhauls, chassis corrosion, bodywork repairs, interior retrims, full resprays or even chassis-off restorations. They're the guys with the problems!

In comparison I know any Evora is max. 5 years old, but they do seem to have proven to be exceptionally reliable when it comes to the most important and expensive components. 5 years is plenty of time for a car to have developed a reputation for unreliability, but the Evora is just not one of them.

I agree!

I have moved into work accommodation (for 2 years) with the content of an Evora.  I have had four people (2 below 10yrs) in the car.  Last week, I took my nephew and niece to Toys R US in it (which they loved).  I collected a new iMac (boxed being twice the size of the machine) in it.  I've taken me and 2 large blokes to the pub in it.

And, am about to move to London for 2 years in it.

The Evora is epiccly practical.  Especially as the back seats also work well as a parcel (or massive suitcase) shelf, when they are not being used as seats (which they can be).  Why people opt for the 2+0 option, I do not understand.

Awesome.

So true! ;-) I too couldn't care less about whether the Bluetooth connects or not.. It drives like nothing else, looks like nothing else and yes that brand is priceless to be a part of everyday ;-)

A chao in the states was going to put a roof rack on his Evora, but seeing as the roof is so thin you can see the interior light through it I advised him against it!

Ha ha! Don't joke I've actually ridden it.. Had my daughter crying with laughter :-D

That space in the rear was the difference between an Evora and a 997. So glad it's worked. The flatbed seat is far better than the Porsches bucket seat as baby/kids seats, suitcases and my daughters "Hello Kitty" bike can all fit! Daughter gets to sit up front because the boys at Hethel fitted an airbag off option :-D! If that switch and those rear seats weren't there I'd be another Porsche owner today.

Superdavelotus, like you say it's actually quite practical once you get your head around it. I decided a long time ago I wouldn't be too precious (although I spent 10 mins in the Hotel Carpark at 2am this morning procrastinating over which space would be best) about it.

I haven't once been in a situation where I honestly felt I needed a more practical car than the Evora. She sits outside and is used day in day out rain or shine!
