Evora NA MPG

Drove up the M1 today in my 2010 NA with normal Long Ratio manual box in mixed traffic conditions..

Low to average speed with aircon on for about two hours.. After my 10th grind to a hault in traffic I became bored! So I started pressing buttons...

Blooming heck! This is embarrassing :-O

I promise to photo my next track day at Oulton Pk next month and photo 11mpg and then beat myself repeatedly with the Alpine headunit!!

Has anyone done a serious long-term MPG test on an NA Evora?

 

In my experience computer dash displays are notoriously inaccurate. I have kept a daily mileage log for 4 successive brand new TDi Passats over a period of 12 years (3 years each). All 4 cars were used pretty much exclusively for longer business or holiday journeys involving plenty of steady motorway miles (no commuting, supermarket or school runs). All 4 generally claimed average MPG of 52 - 55 on their dashboard displays. In reality they managed 42 - 45 MPG. As a comparison the VW brochure claims 60 MPG for the combined cycle, so that's 33% more than the actual truth. That's a massive extra fuel cost over the life of the car.

 

Fortunately our Evora is not my daily driver, so I take little notice of the MPG. This is probably wise, since I drive it "enthusiastically" on most of its journeys, so I probably wouldn't get anywhere near the numbers you guys have managed!

I manually check mine each time I fill up and it's always between 26 and 30mpg. My daily commute along country roads (13 miles each way) with a bit of stop-start traffic normally averages about 27mpg. I filled it up yesterday and that tankful gave 27.2mpg.

 

I've never reset the display mpg since I've had the car (about 6000 miles), but I think it just reads a very recent use average rather than an overall average, but as my usage is normally the same (mostly commuting), it always reads between 26 and 30 - so not far wrong in reality. There have been times after a longish journey when it's read about 33mpg, but when I fill up it always works out at high 20's.

I have seen 40+ mpg on a run.

 

Here are the stats over 6414 miles of ownership.

29 fill ups, Max MPG 33.99 - Avg MPG 26.30 - Min MPG 6.84 (Castle Combe Track day)

Most I managed to squeeze into the tank = 47.5 litres , so there must be a big reserve after you are approaching empty, spec says capacity is 60.

I make a mental calculations every time I fill up to see how she's performing (force of habit).

Motorway :- 34/36

Mixed :- 28

Town :- 23

Tyre Px :- F 2.3 R 2.7

Last week I did 240 miles and it cost me £41.... So about 34mpg Use Aircon and cruise on the motorway at normal fast lane speeds.

I've been paying extra attention since loosing the 3rd Cat... Might be wrong but convince I'm getting 2/3mpg more :-)

Used to own a 3.5 V6 Nissan 350Z, that used to return 19mpg whatever I did!

This car is just brilliant.

Yep, that's what I was reaching for, balanced. I think Top Gear should do a comparison between the Evora and a Polo Bluemotion, as both cars are clearly fighting in the same market segment.

With F1 changing and spending millions on developing hybrid systems and the likes of Ferrari, Mclaren, Porsche and BMW developing their halo Hyper Supercars with new technologies as a result (LaFerrari, P1, 918 and I8) you'd think that this theme of having more power and using less fuel might be the future...

I wonder if these technologies will ever filter into normal sports cars one day...?!? (flappy paddles...).

A car that chucks loads of fuel in to go faster will soon be considered cheating! Just like in F1 where they are disqualified.

Like it or not MPG is also a performance indicator in the MODERN world.

Marketing it's fuel efficiency as well as it's speed is just as important IMO.

That's if you want to sell cars to more than 450 in the UK.

Like yellow, perhaps? Or grey, that's an interesting colour. Or maybe orange, so they can be seen from space. Anyway there's another thread on car colours for the desperately unfashionable. Luckily, I am fine with my awesome white. Good enough for James Bond etc

Last week, 1265 miles of relaxed motorway cruising up to Scotland.  Gentle touring about, plus some spirited 'lets see what this car is all about' driving and a bit less relaxed, press on, return back to flooded Berkshire.

 

1265 miles, 168 Litres of normal unleaded = 34MPG.  I would be surprised if any other car can deliver that many MPG and so many SPG ! (Smiles per Gallon)

During my trip to le mans earlier in the month i did over 900 miles at an average of 28 mpg. If it hadn't have been for the last 5 miles to get into le mans on the thursday (took 2 hrs) and the first 5 miles to get out again on the monday (took 1.5 hrs), that would have been well over 30.

My usual driving consists of a short 5mile journey into work and back each day and then more "fun" driving around the local country lames, and i tend to get low 20s at best!

Manchester and back on tuesday 260 miles with 10 miles at my end of B road hoonage.

 

Cruise set at 80, aircon on, MPG 40.5 for the roundtrip

 

Amost makes up for the new set of rear Pirelli's every  5 minutes

On last month's Isle of Man trip I did 727 miles and 25.2mpg - calculated manually. About 450 were mway miles and the rest hooning in low gears around the island. Mine has the c/r box.

Steve, you weren't trying then ;0). Mine was nearer 21 and I don't think I did as many miles on the island.

Actually I have the long box, so spent most of the week in 3rd. Maybe it's not so economical when hooning.

SWMBO and I are Looking forward to a return already.

About 38 is the best I have had on a run, but I have the M25 to contend with.
