Sump drain plug spec

My Mech. is having a problem removing the sump drain plug and he does not want to damage the sump casting..

 

He has asked me for the spec of the plug, just in case.

 

Any advice on how to remove the plug without damaging anything?

It's 18MM & I'd suggest using an impact socket is your best bet.

Yes....the infamous 18mm!!! The one spanner nobody has......I've found that using a ring spanner (NOT offset!) you can jack the car up on the spanner and that usually gets it undone. Once you've undone it once, the second time should be easier...(!)

It's also worth replacing the fibre washer too.

just got myself an 18mm socket and a solid ratchet so fingers crossed

I got myself a new sump plug last week in B&Q for about £2, it's just a common plumbing piece.

Last time I had to do this I had to hack the fibre washer away with a hacksaw blade before it would free up.  I was very nervous around that cast alloy sump pan!
