Misfires after heavy rain or carwash

Recommended Posts

Hello,

My car had big service done few month ago (timebelt, plugs, leads...) and is working perfectly since then.

But few weeks ago, a (girl;)) friend kindely washed the car for me, probably put the hose to close from the engine bay... and straight after the wash the car was lumpy, serious lack of power and misfires...

I immediatly looked at the plugs cover, remove the leads, and as expected lot of water in the holes.

Cleaned as much as I could, put the leads back on... and came back to life normally.

2 weeks later, the car was outside, I forgot to put the cover on the car, huge storm came up... and the next day the car was misfiring again... After couple of days and some miles, it probably dried naturally and came back to normal.

So no surprise it's the classic water running in the plugs holes, a well known issue on the V8. No big deal on the principle, but it's quite annoying to have get the cover with me all the time just in case of big rain coming up, to be extra careful during washing...

Does anyone has a magical trick to avoid too much water going in ?

Hi,

I had a B service done at the factory and their solution was to seal the covers with instant gasket! Made them a bit of a pig to remove recently, but the plug holes were bone dry!

Cheers
