How do I stop heat from the engine compartment entering the cabin?

Recommended Posts

I am getting a flow of hot air coming out of the console where it mates to the sides and dash and would love to stop it to reduce the heat inside the car. Anyone done this and if so, how, please? TIA.

Yes have a nose at my build thread I had head coming into the cabin from the dash it was like a hair drier being switched on .I replaced the gator boot and no more heat . It comes from the rad and blows up into the chassis tunnel

Great news! Better than from engine compartment. Now, how do I get to the gator boot? Just pull up on the top panel? Can the tear just be taped perhaps? The heat is actually escaping between the top leather panel and the side panels since if I push down on the top panel it mostly cuts off the flow. I am hesitant to experiment without some hints on how it comes apart...

If it's anything like the '89-92 Esprits you just gotta undo a few screws in the little storage compartment in the armrest - after that the center section along with the leather gator should come right off revealing what's left of your rubber gator.

I removed mine and haven't noticed any ill effects oddly enough - intended to put it back but it was stupidly expensive so decided against it.

Vanya,

Much thanks for the tutorial! It is titled as a "93" but plate states it was built in NOV 92 so that makes it simple! Yes, two screws in the tray. Will take a look this weekend and see what the problem is. Wonder if it is still in situ actually as there is soooo much air coming in. expensive?
