Hi all i'm thinking of joining you all and getting an Elise, I will be spending around the £15,000 but know very little about what to look for so whats the best one to go for and what do I need to look out for?

I drive a Smart Coupe Brabus and a 911Turbo. The Smart is great fun but needs a pit more power and a better box as for the Porsche what a car but total over kill for 90% of the time big car town driving= boaring. So I want an elise thats fun but not to over the top with reasonable running costs, the Porsche bills are just stupid recent bills like a bumper polish and spoiler repair £3200, servive rear brake dics and a water pump £2600.

Some of the other cars ive had have been, TT, SLK AMG and the most fun MX5 of which ive had 3.

Thanks in advance

Welcome to TLF Martin.

For that money you'll be looking at a Toyota powered S2, the 111R is the one to go for if you can find one. They're reliable, fun, cheap to run and maintain for the performance etc. If you wanted something more highly strung, you could get an S1 with a Honda conversion for a similar price and they're mentally quick but not everyone's cup of tea.

Either way, which ever you get, they're solid investments at that value and if anything will appreciate in value too. Bonus!

I would always get a Supercharged Elise if I had one. Absolutely awesome, but you may need a few grand more so Bibs is correct in what to look for.

Either way we look forward to seeing you posting pictures of your new toy!

I had my 111R for 4-5 years, it was costing me about £230 a year on main dealer and that was it! Nothing dropped off, nothing needed replacing, just add gas, insurance, road tax and a lot of fun. I still miss it!

Having an affair with another marque... B-)
