The woman driving the Mini with her kid in the car claims to have fainted, which is odd as it appears she swerved a the last minute in this video, perhaps when she looked up from a phone screen?

:no

I hope the car is salvageable and she gets several books thrown at her.

That video makes no sense. I'd say it was mirrored, but the timestamp seems to refute that.

It's handheld footage of a CCTV playback screen, I think.

The car is apparently well known in the area as it has a stick and foam hand sticking out from the rear wing into the road when parked, to encourage people not to drive too close. Am guessing the owner has had problems with the wing mirror being hit or worse.

The owner doesn't have a driveway or garage so has to park on the road.  The CCTV footage is from the owner's house, as he was apparently trying to catch whoever kept removing the stick/hand.

I'm wondering if the first car had pulled out very wide to avoid the stick/hand or had already seen the white Mini drifting off course and was taking avoiding action?

The driver of the oncoming car had the luckiest escape from this feckless cow, that would have been a decent combined speed.

Texting twits seem mostly to be women under 30 and white van man.

How utterly horrible for the owner who obviously cared deeply for it.

My mate sent me a picture of this Esprit  on Friday, he'd spotted it all smashed in while driving around Scarborough killing time waiting to pick his Wife & Daughter up from a McBusted concert. Real shame, suspect that will be another Esprit written off. I feel for whoevers pride & joy it is !

Mini drivers eh! - I'd agree with alot of said above. Not the best parking spot where the hazard warning lines are lengthy indicating it is hazardous to overtake anyway. I'm guessing first car overtaking (from the right) picked the wrong time to pull out to overtake leaving the Mini driver nowhere to go. Toss up of a head on, or hit the parked Esprit. Both possibly exceeding what the safe speed limit should have been at the point of overtake.

Or.... Txting or scanning iPod.

I don't buy the fainting.

Always do sober what you said you'd do drunk - that will teach us to keep mouth shut!

Some of the "internals" must be salvageable. Wonder if Ronin could scoop up the remains and create another (highly modified) one off exotic rat racer?

Being second is to be the first of the ones who lose.

If she fainted, take her licence away as she's not medically fit to drive.

If she didn't faint, take her licence away as she isn't fit to drive.

It wasn't so long ago a 18-ish year old girl crashed in to my parked BMW while I was UNDER my Esprit a few feet away. If she had decided to look at Justin Bieber's status a few seconds earlier it would have been a lot more messy!

How on earth can you miss a bright red car? Well, obviously, you don't. Shame, but least no one was killed.

Ha - reminds me on an incident with my red Excel a few years ago Ian when I asked the very same question. Two cars in a pub car park - mine & a Chelsea Tractor. Car park was about 200ft square. I was sat on the pub balcony with my back to the car park. About 10 of my mates were facing me & the car park. There was a crunching of gravel then a thud & 10 pairs of eyes turned to look at me...!  When I arrived at the incident, the woman driver was berating her 3 kids in the back of the 4x4 for not warning her there was a car parked behind!
