Wood fired oven build

Recommended Posts

Thanks Simon,

There is direct contact between the dome bricks and arch bricks, the dome one being shaped to closely fit around the inner arch.

Some people include a firebreak but I felt that might weaken the link.

The arch will get hot!

Problem is that after the insulation, there will be render, not hot but that will naturally touch the arch. I think I will need a break there or the render will crack. Not sure how to achieve that yet.

I managed to visit Slewthy and took a covert photo of him using the oven

Soon!

Insulation done.

2 layers of ceramic fibre blanket.

Then a thick layer of vermiculocrete - vermiculite + portland cement + a little lime.

Now just need it to dry for a week before the first curing fires can be lit.

Render will also need doing along with a few tiles on the top platform.

looking very cool! So the door at the front is that where the food goes and the fire goes under? Or does the fire go in there to?

Buddsy,

The bottom bit is where the wood is stored. Top bit hosts the fire and the food like this

This is on my list of things to get done at our house too. Very impressive so far, looking forward to seeing pics of any edible food that comes out of it!

  • 2 weeks later...

Hmm. You know, when the revolution comes.......

Aaaanyway, finished.

Final render on, slate tile working surface (plenty of beer space)

Tiny bit of work to do on the door but tomorrow, I plan to fire up to working temp. Got up to 400degC last time so should be safe now.
