Thanks to Bibbs and the forum i now have a parts list and it shows two heat shields on the back of the cam box i have only one as picture is this correct on a 82 model post-13282-0-07509700-1405430800.jpg

Thank you for the reply my engine bay surround  is just painted white should there be some heat reflecting material stuck on it. Or is it painted.

moving on with this one now actually fitting all the bits around the engine it all came in a box

Neat will have to make one. have you put heat insulation around the top surround in the engine bay.

My original one was the same as yours Andrew, but then I made one like Buddsy's when I put the car back together last year. Much neater I think.

post-13282-0-90710000-1406669902.jpgmade my heat reflector in s/steel i replaced the bolts with studs and fitted nuts on the back of the engine. and s/steel dome nuts to Finnish  it off don't like taking steel bolts out of ally blocks thats why i used studs.


Has anyone fitted a turbo cover i have seen one on a blinged up rs cosworth it was a heat wrap material would it get the turbo too hot i wonder.

You need to get as much heat as possible away from the turbo to stop it burning & carbnonising it's oil supply.  :thumbup:

Buddsy It is still open to air not like the thermal bandage so its a good compromise i suspect but i am no expert on turbos as you have seen. andy b

Andy the one shown in your picture is exactly as it originally was, on an 82 and seems to be in remarkably good condition.

 

No need to touch it.

 

Note: If you do have to remove the screws holding it, be very careful. Try holding the large washers stationary somehow otherwise the screw head may turn the washer and the washer may rip apart the delicate heat shield (dont ask me how I know this:))

Thanks yes the original was damaged but the car came with a good second hand one so i fitted that with the extra heat reflector in s/steel all fitted up and finished now. thanks for the input.
