Just thought I'd throw this out there oz futuras

Recommended Posts

For those using the oz wheels I'd urge you to check the fronts . I found a bit of info that means the earlier cars had 60 mm hubs (diameter) and the later cars have 58 mm so this means the front wheels if you have oz futuras and a later car will not be fitted properly to the hub ie hub centric but hold the weight on the bolts . Very dangerous ! I'm trying to find a source for some 60 mm to 58 mm spigot rings to get the front wheels safely fitted . The rears are 60 mm so no worries there . Check before you lose a wheel guys better safe than sorry

Good to know man thanks for the info. Maybe this should be on Esprit fact file or a sticky here on the forum - anything safety related like this needs exposure.

Futuras were originally available on the S4s and Early V8's, which all had the front 58mm spigot.

If you have Futuras with a 60mm spigot, then they were modified to fit an earlier car (pre 94 S4).

Ah I guess the Sport 300 had Futuras, but I see it had the 58mm spigot.

Were those really "Futuras" though? They were an inch smaller in diameter front and rear IIRC.

Alex, read there in LotusEspritWorld all about hubs (brake disc inside vs. Outside oft hub) and those differences between Stevens cars (AS for example Esprit-SE) and the S4. Lots of late V8 rims had seen machine work to fit onto those early Esprit-SE.. maybe you just bought a set oft those

One of the most common questions I get asked regarding wheels is from owners of 1988-1993MY who are interested in updating the look of their cars. They want to know if it is possible to put the wheels from an S4, S4s, or V8 on their model year Esprit.

The short answer is Yes. However, the front hub spigot diameter was reduced from 60mm to 58mm starting with the introduction of the S4. Since these wheels are "hub-centric", this means that the front wheels will not fit without replacing the hub or modifying the wheel. The easiest way to do this is to shave the  inside of wheel by this amount. The "proper" way would be to replace the hub components

From the fact file

60 mm early car 58mm later car ? Futuras 60mm my v8 58mm

I don't think that's right vulcan I have 58 mm hubs ie a later car with mono blocks .I ve bought futuras and they are too big ie earlier wheels 60 mm

Yes, all the later cars have 58mm hubs.  If a Futura has 60mm I.D., then they were modified to fit an earlier SE.

They were Futuras, well they didn't have the center cap, and Lotus doesn't call them Futura.  THey were 16" and 17", but  Futuras are modular, so it is easy to change rim section for different sizes.  The S4s Futuras in the USA are 17" front and rear, and smaller in width than the Sport 300 or UK S4s or V8 Futuras.
