Front lower wishbones

I have my front suspension on my 86 turbo dismantled for renewal of springs, dampers and all bushes. However I have discovered that both wishbones have some damage. Trolling through various sites i have seen wishbones with different part numbers for post 89 cars and wondered if later model wishbones can be retrofitted to earlier cars or are they physically different.

I think the later ones would alter the steering geometry as they would move the balljoint.

I think the fact that they have different part numbers also confirms they will be different in some way.
