rear caliper not working enough

Recommended Posts

fitted new master cylinder, rear calipers rebuilt with new seals, and handbrake mech stripped and cleaned all working including auto adjuster on both calipers. Bleed the brakes near on a thousands times, with them on and off the mounts, rotating and tapping with hammer really convinced they are bleed! pads are not new but loads of life. Brand new discs fitted. Pads have been deglazed cleaned with sand paper and brake cleaner. have put a block of wood in-between caliper to check piston comes out when brake pedal depressed both work, and have to rotate piston to push back in. Engage auto lock again by rotating piston. every thing checks out as it should. Handbrake cables were removed and oiled and working fine. But when fitted the drivers side calipers is shite! on the hand brake and pedal! the passengers side works fine. When engaged with foot pedal and hand brake can not rotate wheel by hand. but the drivers side you can? its working but only just? I am about to have a basil fawlty moment and beat the car with a large tree branch........

Yes, have just fixed the problem it was the inner pad! every time I fitted the caliper it would push the inner pad forward and off its seating position, it was some how fixed in a position away from the disc and with only one side working it was never going to work! hard to explain but all sorted now. For future reference any one having a similar problem get under neath the car and double check both pads are touching the disc!! feel a bit of a dumb ass for not seeing it earlier but that's the joy of fixing cars NOT!

well done i was interested in this one glad you sorted it. i had a problem with the turbo rear calliper not letting go it was well stuck on it turned out to be the rubber hose not letting the fluid release changed the hose fine now. i found it by opening the bleed nipple to relive the pressure

My problem was with a refurbished rear calliper that kept on engaging itself randomly - I had it come on in the middle of a gear change going down a slip road onto the A10. Luckily I was being followed by the RAC van that I had earlier called out.

Solved (so far) by replacing the handbrake cable(s).
