esprit22
Following on from "best albums", some lyrics just stick in ones grey matter and bring a wry grin whenever thought of or heard. Here's a few that do it for me (wots yours?) "I dreampt about you last night, and I feel out of bed twice, you can pin and mount me like a butterfly. But take me to the haven of your bed, was something that you never said, Two lumps please, you'r the beez neez, but so am I"... (the smiths: reel around the fountain) "Gardeners daughter stopped me on my way on the day I was to wed. It is you , who, I wish to share my body with, she said"... (cat stevens: the boy with the moon and stars on his head) "regrets Iv'e had a few, but then again, to few to mention"... (frank)
redshift
"You know I'd sooner forget but I remember those nights When life was just a bet on a race between the lights You had your head on my shoulder you had your hand in my hair Now you act a little colder like you dont seem to care But believe in me baby and I'll take you away From out of this darkness and into the day From these rivers of headlights these rivers of rain From the anger that lives on the streets with these names cos I've run every red light on memory lane I've seen desperation explode into flames And I dont want to see it again" B)

Jonathan
Embrace's - Come Back to What You Know Has to be my fave record : (snippets) Come back to what you know, Take everything real slow I wanna lose you but I can't Let you go. Before you interfere, Let me make it loud and clear, that you got no more to prove. I'm a fool, So take it easy on yourself, There's nothing new about regretting how you felt. I'll never let you down, Or ever feel the way that I've been fearing now. So hang on to what you've got, keep it safe. Hang on to what you've got, Keep it safe from harm. You'll find. There's nothing new that we can't leave behind. Come back to what you know, Take everything real slow, I tried to lose you, But I got, far too close. Tony K
Too busy working at the moment to start digging up lyrics, but I always thought Steven Tyler of Aerosmith could twist a clever phrase. I also think the lyrics by EVE 6 are pretty clever. This is my favorite by them, Open Road Song: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Tonight I feel ambitious and so does my foot as it sinks on the pedal I press it to the floor I don't need a girl don't need a friend 'cause my friend lonesome's unconditional We're flying forever bored And for a moment I love everything that I see and think and feel I love my broken side view mirror Cause it's so perfect I'm so perfect you're so perfect you're not here I hear the change in gears [chorus] My pile shakes as I hit eighty on the open road This is an open road song [/chorus] The night is beckoning although I have nowhere to go but home Feels good to be alone With every turn comes a new frame of mind if I could frame my mind where would it hang [chorus] I crack a window and feel the cool air cleanse my every pore as I pour my poor heart out To a radio song that's patient and willing to listen My volume drowns it out Yeah but that's okay cause I sound better than him anyway any day yeah my voice is sweet as salt I search for comfort and I find it where I've found it many times before Times before can be forgotten (yeah) [chorus] Edited November 7, 2006 by Tony K Quote Tony K. Tony K
I also think the lyrics by EVE 6 are pretty clever. This is my favorite by them, Open Road Song: A few things, lyrically, that I really like about this song: 1) Unique subject matter. Something many have felt and experienced that few songs have been made of; 2) Rhyme -- is clever, original -- not the same old stuff; 3) Personification -- of the radio song and the feeling of lonesome; 4) Repetition used to good effect. Particularly the pun of pore, pour, and poor 5) The shift in voice from 1st to 2nd to 3rd person, akin to the shifting thoughts of a lonesome person thinking to himself about others. . . . . eeek, I have to get back to work! esprit22
I remember listening to this when my boy was born, and the lyrics are framed in his bedroom. He's 10 now, but still likes me to read them to him sometimes: SAMUEL "Please dont cry the ghost and the storm outside will not invade this sacred shrine nor infiltrate your mind my life down I shall lie if the bogey-man should try to play tricks on your sacred mind to tease, torment and tantalise wavering shadows loom a piano plays in an empty room there'll be blood on the clever tonight when darkness lifts and the room is bright I'll still be by your side for you are all that matters and I'll love you to the day I die there never need to be a longing in your eyes as long as the hand that rocks the cradle is mine, ceiling shadows shimmy by and when the wardrobe towers like a beast of prey there's a sadness in your beautiful eyes, you'r untouched, unsoiled, wonderous eyes, my life down I shall lie, for you are all that matters and I'll love you till the day I die..."
