markw996
Could anyone tell me the correct operation of the headlight flasher? When I pull the stalk the lights pop up but don't seem to go back down! Maybe I'm just impatient but I end up flashing again and sometimes turn the dipped beam on and off in order to get the pods down. So, when you pull the stalk how long should the pods stay up for before they go down on their own? Advantage
They'll stay up for a few seconds unilluminated to prevent "bounce". If they raised and lowered with each action of the stalk, then after a few cycles they'd be all over the place with one-eyed winking very likely. markw996
Hmmm I don't have the car with me at the moment, but would you say 10 seconds was too long? Quote 1994 Lotus Esprit S4 & 2016 Tesla Model S P90D
Advantage
I'd suggest that's at the far end of the accepted parameters, but still within them.
Vulcan Grey
Mine pop up, then you pull the stick to flash a few times, and then they go back down after 1-3 seconds. Quote Travis Vulcan Grey 89SE
markw996
Thanks, Mine stay up an embarrassingly long time. So much so that I don't let people out at junctions even when it helps me I'll look into it when I get it back from GST and try to find out why they don't go back down properly. sailorbob
The manual says they remain up for about 4 seconds after the main beam turns off.
CarlC
Not got my car with me to confirm the time, but it definitely long enough to make you feel awkward after flashing some one out. I also suspect that if you single pull and release the flasher that the lights actually flash in the pods just as the lift starts, therefore looking even more odd in that you have just 'lifted' your lights to let them out rather than flashed them. As Mark has said, I really try and avoid this whole situation now which is really sad as I try to be an even more considerate and courteous when in the Esprit than the daily driver. Be great if the time the pods stay up could be significantly shortened somehow.
jimblob
pull stick to raise pods then pull again to flash wait a couple of seconds and back down they go
markw996
That's what I do at the moment, doesn't always seem to work.... I am often found flashing at innocent motorists and random pedestrians Quote 1994 Lotus Esprit S4 & 2016 Tesla Model S P90D
Gold FFM Chillidoggy Posted August 7, 2014 Gold FFM Report Share Posted August 7, 2014 Given my recent experience, I would venture to suggest a new pod delay module is in order. My new one lowers the pods in about 2-3 seconds post-flash. Quote Margate Exotics.
doct93
Mine were doing the same, needed the contacts cleaning on the pod delay module. Now back to normal, about 4 secs up then back down. Tim B
