I finally have the remote mic placed.. Yesterday was perfect and everyone was out…

The RS211 was a rockstar. I spent about three hours answering questions about the car to a wild mix of the nicest peeps you'll ever meet… Too bad it didn't have a Lotus decal…..Do ya hear that Lotus ?

Awesome video, you live in heaven!

The audio is excellent, video is perfect (better than the pro stuff I'm working with)!  :B)

It still lacks a giant Lotus decal though.....

So I had an oil pump failure this weekend and the engine has to be pulled and gone through.  :help:

Well I still haven't broken the same part twice so I guess that's a good thing  :turned:

I traded in my R8V10 yesterday since it felt like a stone ax when compared to the laser like handling of the RS211. After all it was just a temporary replacement while waiting for the Lotus to come back to life.

It's funny to see all the peeps offering help and cell phones to call for help while I was on the side of the road waiting for the flatbed tow home…. If it were the R8 on the roadside they would have laughed and called me a rich dick. I always felt self-conscious pulling into gas stations, you could feel the stares and always get the question "how much did that cost".

I never get that in the Lotus peeps just ask what is it and can they take a picture ?

I love this stupid mental Lotus…

Geeze, Frank. Didn't you add a bottle of Slick 50 before you cranked it up? Urban legend has it that you can run "dry" for at least a week and a half with no damage.

Not buying that, are ya'? Me neither.

Like Bibs, I'm really curious about the circumstances at the time of failure. Full tilt boogie? Or otherwise? Any dash indications, or are they superfluous to the car's intent?

Best of luck in getting things sorted out. Think positive thoughts, Here's your chance for another over bore. :)

Ouch, sorry to hear that but you do run the engine at 12/10th even when it's ticking over! Any ideas what caused the pump to fail? Starvation, old age?

Here is the video, you can hear what sounds like a bad chain tensioner and then it dies..

It would not restart on the roadside but it did start the next morning with zero oil pressure… So it comes out on Monday.

I'll be installing a dry sump system and detail the rebuild once again… This car has more lives than James Bond and a basket of Pussy Galores..

This is what replaces the R8…. 2014 RS7 it is the most practical parts chaser super car on the planet. It just smokes R8s   :smoke:

  • 1 month later...

So the time has come to finally tear into the engine to find out what was it this time….

Again it was an oil starvation issue due most likely to constant high G cornering loads and aeration of the oil.

I'd say this number one cylinder rod bearing is toast. :help:

Will you considered a move to a double aero-counterweighted crank to reduce the aeration of the oil in the pan and an accusump or similar?

Sounds like better alternatives to going slower around corners!

I'll have my new 4 stage dry sump system here on Thursday. We'll fab up a custom tank and that should take care of the oil issues once and for all.

New Carrillo rods, crank and the usual bits will be going back in along with a new and larger supercharger.

The new MP90 will add another third the airflow of the MP62, this should give an even better throttle response along with even better low-midrange torque..

I will be installing my old sequential shifter also so that I can keep both hands on the wheel and do a little more shifting with the shorter gearing. After watching my recent videos a few times I noticed that I hold the engine close to red line in the corners a bit too long. Quicker shifting will help and keep both hands on the wheel can't hurt.

What was old is new again.  :smoke:

Just dreaming....

You're getting 700 HP out of that 2 litre engine. Now the same performance from the 3.5 litre V6 in my Evora would exceed 1200 HP.

VEYRON I'M COMING  :harhar:
