200th EVO

Couple of nice Lotus snippets in the latest, commemorative issue. The Exige S1 makes it into their top 20 of all the cars they've driven and for their 'ultra car' comprising the best bits from all the cars, they choose the Elise for steering and the Esprit for the headlights. And they nominate Matt Becker in their top 20 car people along with Gavan Kershaw.

Which is nice.

Cool. There is no end to your talents Bibs  :unworthy:

Did you note how the sketch of their 'ultra car' could easily be a new Esprit? Definite lineage in the lines, especially the rear haunches and the front, although they do say the Aventador influenced the shape.

I've not read that far yet, will have some time this afternoon.

That's 2 cars in Evo in 2 months, a pair of Esprits in this month's Octane and we've got Jodie Kidd driving a TLF supplied Esprit on Monday!

I couldn't wait to get my hands on this issue but it reads like an advertorial for Porsche to me. I'm starting to have my doubts about Evo now. The test should have been a showdown between all the previous ECOTY winners but no mention of the Exige V6 or Pagani  Huayra anywhere. So it turns out that the best car ever in the whole universe is rear-engined. The 918 also beat the McLaren P1 and feels just as fast, if not faster apparently, and now they're asking readers which one they'd rather have an M3 or Porsche Macan?

It sucks but I think they probably accurately reflect the passions of their readers - there's no hope to be found in expecting punters not to want a BMW or a Porsche given the requisite cash sum to spend on a new car. Most people think image before imagination... Simple as that no?

The Evora had heaps of praise piled on it in 2009 by pretty much the entire motor press...and still hardly anyone bought it. It's almost impossible to sway public opinion on cars even when attempts come from a reputable source...
