Other Cars?

Recommended Posts

Sorry if it's been done, but it apparently hasn't recently, so...

What other cars do you own/have you owned?

My first car of my own was a 98 V6 Camaro... British racing green for some reason. Handled like a boat, had adequate power... wasn't for me (I don't have a Mullet) Sold it to buy the Lotus

My dad bought this one when I was 5... 55 Chevy, SB 350

S001I001.jpg

Sorry for the crappy picture. This is what got me interested in cars. He bought a second one when I was 8, and basically let me tear it apart as much as I wanted, and guided me through the process of rebuilding the engine.

I decided I'd rather drive her when I turned 16, so I tuned it up, got a new Maaco paint job (which still looks surprisingly good). Bought an LT1 corvette motor a few years back that I plan to put in it, along with a 5 speed. Handling should be decently scary :(

Not really "my car", more of the family's car, but I'm the primary driver (the only one left willing to drive it :() Nice when I need to take more than one passenger. In the US, I actually get more stares and comments when I'm driving this thing than in the Lotus ;)

Here are my earlier (few years back).

My everyday street-racer Citroen Ax sport:

For everyday-use (even in winter) Peugeot 205Cj

Real mean machine for street (earlier group A-track car) Citroen Ax sport:

And for everyday use nowdays, Peugeot 206CC:

cc4p.jpg

Background is our old Peugeot 305

And then we have for bad weather days Opel (Vauxhall) Corsa ;)

Earlier I had another Ax Sport (had 3of those, in Finland there are delivered 48).

Datsun1000 which I really miss :(

Citroen CX 2000

So just now we have Opel Corsa, Peugeot 206CC and Turbo Esprit.

And I'm a member of 206CC-club: http://www.peugeot206cc.co.uk/

We ditched Heli's Corsa and Heli bought Peugeot 107, quite a girlie car or what...hmm. I have been driving it also :(

107.jpg

So I think our cars may sound a little "weird" for you ;)

In chronolgical order of purchase, not age of car!

1984 Hillman Imp (good fun, sorted suspension, all alloy engine, alloy transaxle .. sound familiar!) - sold

1985 Ford Capri 1.3L (terrible, no, worse than that) - sold

1986 Ford Cortina 1.6 (ex rep car .. student hack!) - sold

1989 Ford Capri 2.8i (yippee ... first car with 0-60 under 8 secs!) - sold

1992 TVR S2 (2.9) (Good fun, went well on track days) - sold

1994 Ford Granada 2.8i (commuting to Belgium from UK) - sold

1995 Lotus Excel SE (A MUCH better car to drive to Belgium)

1996 Vauxhall Cavalier 1.7TD (err, cheap to run, handled like sponger) - sold

1998 TVR Griffith 500 (Had to buy one, still love it)

1998 Ford Mondeo 1.8 (handled better than cavalier for commuting) - sold

2000 Ford Mondeo 1.8TD (diesel for commuting) - sold

2001 BMW 330D SE (0-60 in under 8 secs, 40mpg+ diesel for commuting) - *FOR SALE*

2005 Esprit Sport 350 (At last!)

I have fond memories of my first car (imp) .. The engine & gearbox could be removed by unbolting driveshafts, engine/box mounts, cables etc, putting blocks under the engine/box, unbolting the back panel of the car and rolling the car forward ... awesome! The engine was a coventry climax derived all alloy OHC engine, with the same size shims as the Excel :-) In racing tune, over 120bhp in normally aspirated form from a 1 litre engine and it'd rev to nearly 9000rpm! Did anyone see the beautifully restored Imp at Donnington!

That's it really, I still own the Excel, Esprit and Griffith (share with brother) ... I've always wanted a Griffith and Esprit, I can't bear to part with Excel - great every day car. I don't see a change in the line-up for quite some time.

From the beginning and only the ones of interest and in order of appearence:

Cars:

1962.5 Triumph TR3-B

1973 Triumph Stag

1976 Triumph TR-6

1984 Mazda RX7

1988 Mazda RX7

1989 Lotus Esprit turbo*

2005 Lotus Elise*

Bikes:

1976 Honda CBR550-4

1983 H-D Wide Glide

1991 H-d Fatboy

1993 H-D Low Rider custom

1996 Triumph Daytona 1200

1998 Triumph Trophy 900

1999 ducati 748

1999 Ducati ST4

2000 Ducati M900S (3rd place winner Ducati Monster Challenge) *

1997 ducati 900SS/SP*

* = currently in possesion of.

Love that Euro stuff, but will give credit to the Japanese products. Those RX7's were a blast.

If I could only have one from the list it would bee the TR3-B. Maybe the least sophisticated of the bunch but it was red, relatively fast, the most fun to drive, and holds the best memories of a young lads earliest driving days.

May have to go hunt one down again.

The bike interest came about when the car died and as an act of rebellion. I was told I would not own a motorcyle as long as I lived in my parents house. So I moved out and bought a bike! It was the 70's.

vauxhall_2.jpg The car that got me interested in cars was my dads first car a 1948 Vauxhall Velox (this isnt a picture of his, his was Grey and Rusty.) My first car was a 1964 Singer Chamois(Hillman Imp) which one of dads mates gave me when I was 14(blown head gasket/ rust. Spent all my early teenage yrs. time/money on this car. Used it to go to college in and to my first job at Chrysler UK Whitley Plant Styling Dept.Took a lot of ribbing for my Hot Rod Imp! From there I have owned every Ford Capri variant made(starting with 1600 GT XLR) Favourite Ford was my 1976 Ford Granada S (police spec.) with a Autosprint 180 bhp 3.1 V6 a real Q Ship! After that I had Pontiac Trans Ams 1978 T/A 6.6 my fave in U.K. and an 1982 Escort van with an RS Turbo engine (Astra GTE Eater) . Then I built a 1976 Chev Monza and put an LT1 Chev engine in it (for racing in Modified Prod.Saloons) Towed it with a 1977 Jeep Cherokee Chief,When I came to Canada I got a 1984 Cherokee Pioneer, 1984 15th anniversary Trans Am, 1971 455HO Trans Am. At present I own a 1983 Turbo Esprit( why Im here) 1974 455 SD Trans Am(restoring) 1982 Chev El Camino (road Race Spec, 406 small block) 1996 Buick Roadmaster Estate (GSX phantom daily driver) and wifes 1998 Chev Venture Van(converted into Pontiac GXP Spec with ram air hood etc) This lot keeps me PLENTY busy! ;) Edited by WayneB

Family car is a BMW 330D touring. Hated BMWs, but now won't hear a bad word against them. It is a superb car.

Used to have a Fiat Coupe 20VT (When they were still expensive!). Great great car. Much quicker than people give credit. FWD, but with kick like a donkey when on boost. Would buy a well looked after one again for a run around but can't afford at the moment.

Wife has had (before BMW which is officially hers) a peugeot 306 cabriolet (bit dissapointing), Mazda MX5 (great great car), and 1977 MGB (terrifying, absolutely terrifying).

Started in a H reg mini many years ago. Too many crap cars in between to mention.

;)

Err, yeh, I hated the thought of a BMW until I drove it. The 330D Touring is very impressive, especially the facelifted model with sports pack suspension ... mine is for sale so I can keep my Excel. ... c'mon, somebody must need a fast, sensible, reliable car!

The fantastic list of cars that I have owned are:

Rover 214SLi (actually a nice engine - very buzzy!)

and I now own:

Renault Scenic (Diesel) - for the wife + kids

Nissan Micra (the anti-lotus) - for cheap commuting!

'87 Esprit Turbo HC - well, what can I say!

Would like a BMW if anyone's giving one away. Or I'll swap it for a nice Micra, if you like ;)

Did it have Crossply tyres? A friend had one and it would oversteer at any speed, in a kind of entertaining / training / slow motion kind of way!
