driveshaft bolts breaking?

just looked under my car and seen CV black grease splatters so checked the CV boot and its fine but found two of the drive shaft bolts have sheared off? WTF!

I know my engine has a lot of torque but really? anyone had a similar problem with bolts breaking? does anyone know the spec of the bolt and can I buy stronger?

This happened to me in an alfasud with the 1.7 motor- not high torque! All of them went on one shaft in quick succession, then the drive shaft thrashed around against the long header pipes sounding far worse than it was! I always asumed that the bolts must have been loose for that to hapen, allowing a shock force to be applied to the bolts...time to check driveshaft bolts gents!

First thing is to use a torque wrench when doing them up...(!) A bit too late when they are already broken, I know....I've bought them from S&J and they are the right spec.

I did, and they are also 10 times more expensive from sj have brought the correct type elsewhere for a lot less

Im sure your issue would have been due to age and the amount of times they have been re-tightened.

Old age creeps up on all of us.....especially when tight.......(!)
