Anyone Seen A M100 Reg H574 TPW?

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I have just posted this on Lotus Elan Central but thought that it may be worth mentioning on here, as my search continues for an excellent example of a M100 in as original condition as possible I thought that it would be cool to try and track down my original M100 which I bought new in 1992, so I was just wondering if anyone knows where H574 TPW might ne?

I found some old pics that I've scanned below from when I first bought it, that is not my house btw :)

Well I couldn't resist and just bought my old Elan back from 30 years ago, seems mad as only £4k, I will plan to restore it to its former glory once the world returns to normality 👍

Here we go guys, back together again after nearly 30 years apart, I got her delivered to home during the week and I have to say it is probably the best £4000 I have ever spent, I mean in the car world

Hi All, For a bit of fun I recreated a picture from 30 years ago where we gatecrashed someones drive, nothing had really changed other than the trees had grown a little. Cheers, Paul.

Thanks for checking, that wasn't my house unfortunately, I drove past it everyday and couldn't resist borrowing their drive :)

Wow, it was 6 years ago I asked the question and look what has just turned up for sale, thanks to the guy who rang me on Saturday at work who spotted it.

https://www.facebook.com/groups/137661776761805/

Really would love to buy it but the way the world is at the moment I think my wife would kill me if I bought another car but at £4500 it is so tempting as this is the car that started my love all things Lotus so is a very special car in my car history.

Here's hoping the world goes back to normality soon so I can be re-acquainted.

Thanks mate, my plan to get this one restored, not sure if there are many M100 experts out there though?

Gerald at GST is very good took all three of mine there.

LEC can help with a lot of tips if you fancy doing some yourself as these can like most cars eat up your cash.

Thanks for that, I probably should take my S2 to Gerald as I have now taken it to 3 reputed Lotus specialists to sort out a specific ECU problem without any luck, thanks for the headsup.

Paul

Great news, the M100 is still my favourite drivers car and owned a few, the SE is still the pick of the bunch for me.

Good luck with the resto and post some pics of how it looks now before you start as these cars have certainly eaten a fair few miles now.

I’m in negotiations to buy my first Lotus at the moment which is sat in a garden covered in green growth (78 Esprit owned in 95).

I take it you have the red striped interior or was it half cloth?

Dave :)

Do you have any idea what the problem is.

It is a pretty straightforward problem really, at first it is a bit lumpy low down the rev range but will rev freely, then after 30 mins or so the engine management light comes on and it won't rev passed 4000 revs, I thought it was the cam angle sensor but that has been replaced, spent about £3000 so far trying to fix it, I really wouldn't have thought it would be that hard really so any suggestions welcomed 👍

Hi Dave,

Yeah I'll post some pics when I get her home, what with the lockdown at the moment I have no idea when that will be, maybe I'll have to make an 'essential' trip to collect her at the weekend 😷

Good luck getting your first Lotus back, sounds like you may have a bit of work to do there though if sat in a garden.

Yes I ordered her with the red striped leather, not sure what condition it will be in and it has still got the stereo I put in her, spent a fortune on that at the time.

Cheers,

Have you replaced the oxygen sensor?

Yes we did that, thnaks, so far Spyder Cars and Allon White can't get to the bottom of it, they've both had the car for around 3 months each, it is very frustrating as it can't be much as when it runs without the ECU light on it drive beautifully, very strange.

Have they run an Elanscan to check the fault code indicator. Obviously they will have done lots but just chucking in my limited knowledge.

There's also a vacuum pipe that runs to the turbo transducer from the plenum, this can be split but not be noticeable.

The last point sounds like an interesting one, I bet it is something really small, probably end up spending thousands for a part that costs a few pence, I'll update once it is sorted, thanks.

Thanks Dave, I guess it could be, I'm really not mechanically minded so have to rely on the garages, I'll mention this next time it goes in though for the next attempt to resolve the problem.
