S1 belt snubber clearance

Recommended Posts

Does anybody know what the clearance needs to be for the belt snubber on an S1? I'm talking about the right angled bracket which is fixed to the inlet cam carrier.

The manual talks about an auxiliary pulley snubber having a clearance of 0.4mm +/- 0.1mm but I'm not sure if that's the same thing. I can't adjust mine to give me less than 1.1mm?

Thanks, Paul.

Book says inlet snubber for turbo should be 0.50 to 0.75 mm.

Aux. pulley snubber 0.4mm +/- 0.1mm.

The early S1 didn't have an auxiliary snubber only one on the inlet cam but I can't see anywhere in the manual that tells me what the clearance should be... I wonder if it would be the same as the turbo?

Exactly the same function and geometry...so I would think the clearance would be the same. Main things are 1) not so small that it rubs the belt away and 2) close enough that it performs its function and stops the belt slipping...!! So if it works on one 900 series engine, should be good for all of them.

I was assuming the S1 would have the same trapezoidal belt as my early turbo from 1982....HTD was later than that(!)
