After 1200 miles of running after a rebuild I  returned from this mornings run on a recovery truck.  No spark and as pretty much the only non new part in it is the dizzy pickup that's no1  target.   Apart from just replacing it how do I test it ( and the dodgy wires to it as I suspect that's the problem)?

I did remember your post on that so that was one of my road side checks before I called out the recovery company.   No spark at the end of the plug leads and the coil was warm but not hot ( after about 60 miles run).  It stuttered on the motorway as I accelerated about 2 miles from home then  I got to within 1/2 mile and it just died. Cranks over fine but no spark. It was running really well until it stopped!!

The rotor arm was new with the cap leads, coil , plugs 1200 miles ago. However it is the rivet type.   I have pulled the dizzy for a closer look.  When turning  the shaft the  lobes on one or 2 kiss the pick up.  What sort of clearance should there be.   I really want  to test the pick up and if that's at fault replace it with either a lucas one or one of the adlon ignitor set ups.

If it's constant energy you can rig it all up and spin by hand with one plug connected resting to earth to test every thing and you will get spark. Re setting it up just close without hitting technical i know LOL.

Update on this.  Bought a power spark distributor for £60 ish, dumped the original one and the amp ( one less thing to go wrong) and it fired up fine.  Its more a stopgap before fitting mapped ignition however others have said they last well despite the low price.   The powerspark  was the cheapest route almost as a diagnostic decision however will see how long it lasts. Not sure why the aldon ignitor is so much for just the pick up compared to the whole powerspark dizzy.  Its not as nicely finished as the Lucas original but it works which is all I need from it.
