cylinder heads

Recommended Posts

I have been given some engine heads and cams for a 907 i think.

is there any difference in the head design as the engines progressed i know the turbo has sodium filled valves. I assume they changed cam profile for more power plus changed the c/r on the later engines.

can you fit latter cam carrier on early heads i have run a hc in my late excel from new some 97000 miles never had any isues with it and i need to learn about these motors. as i will be running the 82 turbo from oct  this year. andy b

Fundamentely, all the heads are the same.   Compression ratio is controlled by Pistons.  You will however find detailed difference in Water Stubs, Ex valve guides, valve sizes to a lesser extent.  Also inlet port sizes differ.   There is also a suggestion that the internal waterways differ, although I've not seen evidence of that.   There is also a later casting that came in, possibly with the SE?   However, with a bit of work, you should be able to make any 4 cylinder head fit on any model (I think!)
