new radiator

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I'm looking at getting a new radiator made for my eclat, as it has a bigger engine, I've got an excel SE radiator which is 3 core but otherwise the same dimensions as the eclat one I took off., but I want to get an aluminium one made.

I've got an ac condenser to mount to the front of it, and two revotec 11" high power fans to mount on the back. My plan is to get one made to suit with mountings and fittings etc.

I'm looking at what will fit and it strikes me that a radiator about 5cm taller will fit in the available space. I'm guessing Lotus just used the nearest ford or similar item that would fit.

But here is my question - From talking to a few radiator specialists, the consensus is that the radiator should be fitted so all air reaching the ducting in front of the radiator is forced through the radiator, ie it can't bypass through gaps etc. On my car there are two areas at the bottom that are lower and hence air would pass through. What I'd like to do is "seal" the radiator in, so no air can bypass it.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to achieve this? And if anyone has photos of where their radiator meets the bottom of the car body, I'd be interested in seeing them. My car is modified in this area and I can't remember what it looked like before! (plus It always ran hot with the standard engine and radiator so might not be the best arrangement)

Thanks, Mat.
