Recommended Posts

Hi all, just browsing on ebay at the poor Turbo SE that got hit in scarborough and noticed the oil pressure running alot higher than mine, mine (once warm) goes between a quarter and three quarters of the dial? Should i be worried?

Hi Andy, in my humble opinion that is showing unrealistically high, both my S3 and S4 show nothing like as high as phtogrpahed and I know for fact my S3 N/A had a rebuilt engine, my readings, about 3/4 when cold and just about half when hot are very similar to your's.

Two different VDO oil pressure gauges were fitted in that time period.

One is a 5-bar unit, the other is 7-bar.

So, that would determined how far up the gauge the needle would be.

My '88 non-SE with a 5-bar gauge reads just a little less than that, 3.7 bar during normal warm driving, which translates to about 3/4 up on the scale. Yes... it is higher when cold.

A high resistance in the connector or sender will result in a higher reading.

The oil pressure gauge was always high on that car when I had it.

The needle used to get stuck on the stop with revs.
