Finally got my new Mustang today, a month after buying it.  New wheels and states plates fitted and just been serviced, they couldn't find anything wrong with it so just new oil and a filter.  It goes

I picked up the car today.  Absolutely love it!  It sounds great and strangely it seems to handles quite well too.  It's going to keep the Esprit company .

Got the Mustang's hazy, flat paint restored this week.  A local classic car specialist spent 2 days working on it. The right side shows how oxidzied the 48 year old paint was from all that C

Yes, enjoy it, Mark.

Smiley didn't come out on the last post, so apologies for it sounding a bit off.

I do, of course have a certain amount of guitar envy looking at your collection, but good on you on both counts!

Good lad - only just found this thread. I'd have said go for it - I had the same sort of crisis and a doubting wife and look what I ended up with. 5.7 litres with a whopping 180 bhp but when it starts windows rattle & birds scatter.

Wow, fantastic, is that a 78?  Do you still own it?

Yes, the windows shake when I start mine too.  It has a 5 litre 302 engine and a Magnaflow exhaust system with 2 through exhaust pipes (no exhaust boxes).  At 50 mph the noise is staggering.  My Wife had her fingers in her ears.

Here's another pic from the front.

Is it just me? Where's the steering wheel?

Well done Mark!

Hi Chaps,

I've done some tweaks to the car.  BF Goodrich all around with 255s on the rear and new deep dish Magnum 500s on the back  I'm also putting black import plates on.  I'm loving this car :).

Just caught this thread Mark, well done, love 'em.

Truth be told when i was buying my Esprit it was touch and go between it and a Bullitt replica. Same car would be worth 2-3 times as much today, doh!

Since seeing a red one in "Hustle" I prefer the convertibles in the late shape "aircraft carrier" Mustang...the sportsroof is a bit "obvious" and with the hood up the convertible has a nice looking boot.

Here are some shots of a nice one off US ebay;

Personal favourite money no object would be a '70 model with dog dish hubcaps in a nice lurid colour. If only I had bought that Mach1 for £1500 in 1987 when only oddballs wanted them...

Just thought I'd update this thread with some progress on my Mustang.  Earlier in the year the car had new suspension fitted to the front, new disc brakes / pads, brake hoses, wheel bearings, master cylinder, petronix auto ignition and rebuilt the carb.

Then 2 weeks ago the car went into the bodyshop to get rust removed from the bonnet and rear deck filler panel.  After that lots of new parts fitted and then a full respray.  Here are the pics.

Anyone notice the chick at the end of my bonnet?  She's giving it a rub down.

I'll take some pics when it's all done.  They're fitting an original NOS 71 urethane front bumper (rare as hens teeth) and new interior panels too so should look smart when it all done.

Don't talk about the price though, all the parts are coming from the States, so shipping and import duty on everything, including the paint.  Makes maintaining a Lotus seem a bargain!
