I was invited to my neighbours last Monday (well when I say neighbour it is half a mile away!). He is a local farmer but has a hobby of restoring old engines.

Last Monday he had a few people round to run them up.

As well as a Field Marshall tractor - single cylinder 2 stroke diesel started by 12 bore shotgun cartridge he had these:

Bamford C3 mill, Bamford chaff cutter(1924) and Hayley leather splitter (1908).

National heavy oil (1929) starts on diesel and runs on marine oil. High pressure air start. Weighs over 5 tons. Flywheel alone is over 1 ton. Has a slave donkey engine to start the main engine.

National Gas engine type MP (1914)

Crossley gas engine(1907) originally ran on town gas now running on propane. Apparently the only one in the world running with its original parts.

Stuart 2 stroke petrol driving a DC dynamo (1910).

Tangye pumping set - paraffin (1929) hot bulb 2 stroke engine running on paraffin.

Quite an interesting night all in all. I quite like living in the country!! :)

Wow thats lovely...all of it!

I love old steam engines and I made a small one when I was younger. I just love cast iron when its all nice and clean.

Interestingly he has a Blackstone 1.5HP 1934 engine which he is currently restoring to install on a Blackstone built Massey-Harris elevator

That's a pretty awesome collection.

I was invited back to a gents garage after the pub one night around about 2 years ago. He had an old engine machine thingy that was pretty cool.

That looks more like a mini museum though!

Cast Iron and sewerage what a great mix! This was one of the wonders of the Victorian world. Queen Victoria used to show visiting dignitaries around this beauty herself! She was so very proud!

Crikey......awful news.  Nothing much gets sadder than that.
