Unique Lotus Esprit S2 Treg The 1978 Lotus Cars NEC Motor Show Car ONLY 26,000 miles FROM NEW!!!

This is the Esprit used by Lotus Cars to promote the new Championship Gold paint colour at the 1978 NEC Motor Show. The 1st NEC Motor Show saw Lotus field 4 cars on their stand 1 x Elite 1 x Éclat 2 x Esprit.

Having won the F1Drivers and Constructors World Championship Lotus celebrated launching the JPS liveried Ltd edition Esprit at the NEC and all other current models displayed were in the new Gold Colour. Please see the link below of this car on the Lotus stand.

The Car.

After the Motor show the car was sold through the Lotus dealer network. The owner who bought the car in 1984 ran the car for 2 years then laid the car up on blocks in his heated electronics workshop from October 1986 with the intention of using the car for show events and club meets when he had more time. 28 years later the car emerged and has been carefully re-commissioned.

Interior & Exterior

Championship Gold Metallic original paint work with all original decals and badging etc. including the original lower body panels painted black. The body has a deep sheen with only the odd stone chip patina as commensurate with the cars age. No aftermarket sunroof fitted as was the trend in the eighties.  The car is fitted with Oatmeal Leather seats and matching carpets with a unique brown cloth covered dash area and door cards and Oatmeal leather inserts. This type of cloth covering is not normally used on production Esprits and can be clearly seen on the motor show footage. The condition of the original interior and exterior is simply superb due to the car having not seen day light for 28 years and being stored dry at ambient temperature.

The chassis is original and simply outstanding having had the front sections coated in black waxoyl over the black paint in the 80’s and the rear kept clean in preparation for showing the car.

Engine & Drive Train

The engine is superb with excellent oil pressure no noises smoke or tappet noises. All the cylinder compressions are at top factory specification. The gearbox is wonderfully smooth and precise a joy to use with no noises etc.  All the drive shafts universal joints rear suspension bushes look to be in superb condition having been repainted/refurbished back in 1987 when the car was off the road.

Coolant System

The coolant system has been flushed and fitted with a new water pump, thermostat and otter switch for the electric fans. The radiator and electric fans were refurbished in 1987 and are in superb condition with Stainless Steel fan surrounds.

All electrics function correctly. Amazing for an Esprit!!

A new Full Stainless Steel Exhaust was fitted in 1987 in preparation for showing the car.

The original Speedline wheels have been refurbished and the tyres the car has worn since 1987 have been refitted as the tyres are in superb condition having had no heat cycles through them and showing no signs of cracking and they still have a soft compound. These tyres were fitted new in 1987 and have not seen the road until 2014.

The car is now fully serviced with 12 months MOT and really is such a rare car in this LOW Mileage condition ready to be used or a collectors dream with the motor show provenance.

A truly one off opportunity to own a piece of Lotus automotive history.
