why a new chassis?

Doesn't answer the question but does help give some more insight, chassis and exhaust manifold at the factory. Does make me wonder whether the manifold had caused the chassis tube to corrode so bad that it was considered weak. The Silverstone auction doesn't mention any totla loss, so doubt the chassis was due to an (insured) accident.

Unlikely that the chassis became corroded in 2001 which is when the advert states it was replaced.

There's a good chance it may have changed shape or number of suspension mounting points at the hands of a previous owner.

Would the factory have a record of the work

From the seller

"

Our understanding was that the car went back to lotus for a restoration and they advised replacing the chassis assembly (2001)

the car has not had any accident damage to our knowledge or according to HPI.

I would expect that there may have been some corrosion

we have stacks of service history for the car

£2K to replace the Chassis? That sounds way too cheap to me. Think of the work involved? Unless they can remove the chassis and sort of leave the engine in place and connected? Does that price include the new chassis as well?

I think there is another £2k plus of labour on the bottom of the invoice. Looks like the total is over £5k.

Yes does look more like it. Still good value if you ask me.
