GordonMasson
Hi folks, Following on from the success of the Lotus Day at the Grampian Transport Museum in the last two years, I have agreed that we will host the Lotus Day for the museum as an annual event which will become part of the official GTM events calendar. The past two events have been limited to museum members but due to their success, they will now be extended to the general public. The event will be publicised on the Visit Scotland and GTM web sites and the local press. The format will be as before, static display cars, access to the museum and I imagine GTM will be putting on a BBQ for us again .......and of course the highlight being passenger rides round the track, for the drivers and the public. I would like to arrange a wide group of Lotus cars from the very early cars up to the latest cars. They can be either static displays or take part in the track runs which seemed to be enjoyed by all the drivers last year. It would be about a 2 hour session in the afternoon. Depending on the number of participants, we will swap cars out on the track as the drivers want to take a break... or the brakes need to take a break! It has to be stressed that these are demonstration rides only and there is no racing under any circumstances due to safety risks with passengers and the public next to the track. Likewise, the cars must be driven responsibly and well within the limits of both the car and driver. There will be a maximum of about 8 cars on track at any time and I would like to get about 15 cars minimum. For those traveling from further afield, it would be a good opportunity to arrange an evening event on the Saturday as well .... suggestions please? Can I ask the relevant people in all the affiliated groups to circulate this round please but link back to this thread so I can get a list of numbers here rather than across various pages / forums. Please add your car to the list including model, year and if you would like to take part in static or track and your name. I will start the ball rolling. Al
Good luck with numbers Gordon but unfortunately I can't be there as not due home until 5th. (Bo-hoo ) although that is only because I'll be there for the Speedfest the previous month This is our official LEGS Breakfast Club for that month so will be in the calendar when I get time to publish it. Cheers, Al. A LEGS man and proud to declare it! Lotus Enthusiasts Group Scotland Autocar's Best UK Drivers Car 2009. Car's Performance Car of the Year 2009; Evo's Car of the Year 2009. Fueltheburn
Gordon - Similar to the above statement from Al. I can attend one but likely NOT both. I have two cars available. - Ethel should have a rebuilt gearbox and stronger diff mount by march and also available is the last red Excel celebration which is a bit rough cosmetically but running a fresh 3.5 v8 with good mechanicals. Only down the road for me but would need to book either one well in advance due to work. Cheers Kieran P.s - would the entry be free for passengers? (Bo-hoo ) although that is only because I'll be there for the Speedfest the previous month You could always get Stuart to bring your car up and take it out on the track on your behalf???? We try to get as many cars into Speedfest as possible Kieran but since they limit the entries to ~ 100, its difficult to get as many cars in as we might like sometimes. Speedfest cars as a rule are in very good condition because for the most part it is a display event…. With the exception of the pursuits, autotests and early bird drives. The Lotus Day is our day and there is no limit to the number of cars we have…. The more the merrier J The passengers are all people who have paid to attend the events, either buying a ticket for Speedfest or paying for entry to the museum on The Lotus Day. We don’t make anything from doing the passenger rides or displaying the cars but you do see a lot of happy faces! I've had a perfectly wonderful evening, but this wasn't it. Fueltheburn
Although Ethel is pristine.... I did not build her to be a paperweight Everything on her is made either for lightweight, strength, speed or all 3... except for the seats they were just comfy! Drop in for a cup of tea at the weekend Gordon and have a wee gander at the finished result, I am out in the Bridge of Don. I'm on shore all this week so you can drop me a text.
