fmxa
Believe it or not, it's a federally mandated "filler" to prevent a child from getting trapped in the void space should the hood (bonnet) get closed. Advantage
Wasn't that a question in a mag or a forum (on here?) or some such a while ago? Memory's going, but that looks familiar...

Bernie
This is a joke ... please tell me that its a joke ! If its not a joke, how does the filler for the rear boot look like ????? Marcus No need for a filler in the back because USA and Canada cars have a safety release cable with a glow in the dark handle to open the rear boot from the inside. BTW, all new cars in America have this inside trunk release system. It is the law. Edited December 3, 2006 by Bernie

BTW, all new cars in America have this inside trunk release system. It is the law. Haha, yeah, that reminds me... Clyde from Lotus USA told me that they stuffed him inside the rear hatch of an Esprit to make sure the glow in the dark handle works... It broke off in his hand and he was stuck. Scared the crap out of him. When I was a kid I actually did get stuck in the spare tire well in an old station wagon, after my smaller friend was able to get out... His dad had to rescue me. Lotus also found that they could fit two small children in the boot of an Elise, and those cars halso have the glow in the dark releases inside. The bump in the front is just stupid....
