Door handle only just opening door

Recommended Posts

Noticed this recently with my Eclat.  From both inside and outside the handle is needing to be pulled right to its limit to release the door.  While I know it shouldn't just release at the slightest touch of the handle, before it was similar to the passenger side and with definite feeling of release.  Now you have to pull the handle and then push/pull the door, hoping it's released.

In the workshop manual I've found this diagram.  Am I right in thinking it's just going to be a case of removing the door trim, and then playing around with H and K until it feels better?post-17588-0-85845700-1420923238.gif

A bit unusuall that both interior and exterior handles need adjusted, no harm in playing around with the rods though.

You are kind of right, H and K are the clips for the rods D and F are the actuall rods.

Also i may be wrong but i think that diagram is for an S2 as the S1 should have threaded adjusters at the catch (the rods pass through these), so it's (in theory) a case of unhooking the rods from the handles and giving each rod a few turns, hooking them back in and giving it a try.

Pretty sure the rods are non adjustable in an S2

Yes, just squeeze the springclip and move the rod a little further in, ie make total length shorter. One rod does the locking, and the other the door release.

These don't normally slip over time, so maybe your doorlock was disturbed at some time and the rods not adjusted correctly.

Played around with it, got to the handle and lock mechanism, disconnected and reconnected everything and it seems to open again fine now.  :)

"You've just got to j j jiggle it a bit .." Arkwright.
