Lotus Evora 400

Recommended Posts

This is turning into a bit of a Lotus Cars warranty thread rather than the Evora 400...

For what it's worth I think the Evora 400 will be the car all current Evora owners want their cars to be. It's the Mk 3 Evora with all the crap ironed out with more power and a few enhancements. No more leaks, peeling lenses, dodgy gear cables, crappie Sat Nav, intermittent cruise control, trim falling off etc etc etc.

They do try and help if you're in warranty, but if you're not then just accept it as its black and white. No warranty no goodwill in my experience.

The Evora 400 will no doubt be an awesome car, time will tell if it's lots of trouble or not!!

Back on topic:-

What is it's Ring time? 400bhp... That super stiff chassis, incredible grip and world class steering should beat a Carrera S easily ehh? Or not?? (Forgive me if this has already been posted, I may have missed it) Or are they going to be girls about it and say it doesn't matter!!

I'm not going to buy one, but I would like to borrow one for three months, then exchange it for a new spec car for a further three months, then how about one with slightly different interior fabrics for three months and ending the year with a three month loan of one fitted with winter tyres.

Any chance of that happening?

I have asked about the "Federal" or correctly termed "those stupid North American reflector thingies on the front wings" and been told that all regions are getting them as the body is formed for them and not as presently glued on as an afterthought. The bad news is they are also behind the rear wheels and look equally hideous.

I also would love to see the LOTUS letters on dash top be removed as tacky in the extreme and when I enquired if could be a delete item initial indications were possibly not, as material formed round them or something...... As nobody who saw them in our large group liked them I can't believe that the feedback hasn't reached the powers that be.

Although the bumpers will have the mouldings to accept the side markers I believe only the federal markets will actually have them fitted.

The Lotus badge is actually pinned on to the dash so if removed would leave holes. However, the Chinese market can't use the Lotus brand so you could possibly retro fit their blank version.

If it is pinned on, how about not pinning it at all?  Has anyone on this forum thought the lettering was a welcome addition?

I can't decide if the black pack is worth it on the darker colors. Doesn't stand out much. *shrugs*

That car above may look better without the black pack. I always liked the black pack, but I have started to think otherwise recently.

So has anyone put a deposit down yet or knows of anyone who has?

I am waiting on the formal quote to come through and will then pay my deposit.  Spec as follows:

Dark grey metallic

Black pack

Alcantara upgrade

Diamond cut forged alloys

Cruise control

Will be used as a daily driver - seems rude not to!

Strong work, Greg. Great spec.

I'm less than 6 months in, but will hopefully be ready when I hit the two year mark.

Nice.  What were your thoughts on it whilst there?

It sounded (from the video at least) a lot more throaty and baritone?

I didn't really look at it as I've poked around the Frankfurt car a few times. It's the only Evora on show and is obviously just a prototype/development car. I believe it was used as transport to Goodwood by JMG and added to the stand as an after thought.

Before Scott manoeuvred it to its "display" position, it had been dumped unceremoniously down the side of the stand .

Strange strategy for such a pivotal car at such an important motorshow. Still, what would I know?

I won't start afresh with my thoughts on Lotus' marketing department... but I share your sentiment.

Apologies, I didn't make myself clear:  I meant, what did you make of the exhaust note?

I guess JMG wanted to focus all the attention on the 3-Eleven but I'm kinda shocked they did not bring a colourful preproduction Evora 400 to display it alongside the Eleven! I mean Evora's production is imminent while Eleven will be released next year.

However seriously hoping to see the Evora 450 "GT" on display in Frankfurt this fall!!! And for the purists it shall come with a stickshift.

With my "overly optimistic" head on:

Maybe, just maybe, Lotus has told certain key, influential publications that they will get full bragging rights on the Evora 400 (as if I recall correctly the first cars should be with the press next week or thereabouts) and part of that strategy is to downplay any "full reveal" until the Journos have had their go.

In addition (and now I'm being positively delusional), I hold an outside hope that they've seen the various reactions to the lack of preparation of aforementioned press cars, and this time have decided to get it right and use the extra time to do so.

Or it could just be a depressing continuation and more of the same afterthoughts...

...but it's Friday and I have a pretty good rum in my hand (Mauritian Penny Blue batch #2 for any aficionados) so I'm hoping it's all part of the master-plan!

I really think the journalists are going to go crazy for this car.  Am I too optimistic?  They say the got every issue of the previous car sorted out with the 400 and journalists were pretty happy with the original version.  They really love the Exige S, so I just put 2 & 2 together think the 400 will answer all prayers...

No deposit as yet but have registered interest and an eagerly awaiting a back to back test drive with Exige v6... Then it'll be decision time but that 3-11 does look mighty fine!

That should not have stopped them having a pre-production properly finished car on show. It's been shown already after all so this would be nothing new and a good teaser for the press cars to come.

Lotus did contract a launch specialist that did ludicrous launches for the Jag F-Type and XE and the new Land Rover Discovery Sport so lets trust that they know what they are doing.

Bibs Do you know if Lotus will attend Frankfurt autoshow this fall, a presence with a booth in line with the one seen in Paris in 2010 would be ideal to display the new product range in its entirety : Evora 400, 3 Eleven, Exige S and Elise S do make a very good line up. I guess it may be a bit early for the Evora 450 S or GT, Exige 400 and Evora 400 roadster are clearly on next year's agenda.
