Espritmon / aldl adaptor ....

Recommended Posts

I'm a newbie here - so if it's a dumb question I'm sorry,

1 - where can I download the software ?

2 - what are the pinouts for the aldl connector and what needs wiring to the rs232 port on a pc?

I have rescued a 1991 esprit s - and today the cel light has started coming on and going off again. Idle is somewhat rough as well. Still boosts well and drives fine but - there's clearly an underlying issue that's not going to fix itself....

Would like to start looking at this in a methodical way - I'm already running thin on top and don't want to rub any more away scratching !!!

Thanks so much in advance

Barry

For RS232 you can do this

Or for modern PC's you can use an FTDI to convert USB to Serial to ALDL.

or you can buy a cable from Sanj

If you just want to read the fault codes, that can be done with a paperclip to trigger the CEL into giving the codes. The software is easier to use and offers much more of course, like live data from the sensors to trace a possible fault.

Travis

Thank you very much it's very much appreciated.

Will get on making today and have a bash with this software the weekend

I'm sure the faults will become very clear on the pc.......just need to track them down

Cheers Filip

I'd seen the paperclip trick - but I'd like to see the issues on a screen

I think I've got a throttle issue and maybe the iac things playing up as well oh and possibly a vacuum hose.....

Those seem the most common issues - the engine runs great and strong so I don't think its an underlying sinister issue

Made a cable - got both freescan and espritmon downloaded.

Neither work on the aldl connector under the dash.

Will take it to a mates garage and see if his diag kit will work .....

Arghh - computers and cars - a devil of a mixture

what kind of computer?

Did you make a serial?

did you click [Force Interact]?

Dell Inspiron laptop

It would not open com1 for some reason

I left the baud rate on default on both espritmon and freescan

Going to whack a paperclip across a and b tomorrow - got a feeling I'm going to need a big piece of paper for the error codes

The car runs great though - just doesn't make sense - even with the cel on the boost goes just over 0.5 - so that's pretty much the 0.65 max - certainly doesn't feel different with cel on or off

No cel when it's cold that noticeable

When running boost on a bit of a push through the gears warm the cel comes on - then drive steady and keep boost off - the cel goes out after a few miles.

It is strange - but I have noticed I'm missing some vac lines and that's simply not going to help - so will get some hose tomorrow to resolve that.

Will strip out the iac and clean that up too

Yes Chris I take your point - but.....

Mines faster!!!!!! Even with that silly light flashing !!! I see why folks take it out..... I'd rather fix the issue though - never been great at head burying

Would have liked a g car - but nothing about in my budget...

Oh well more modern ones have central locking.......oh not on these old marina door handles on mine they don't

I always thought they were Range Rover door handles myself, and the Allegros & Marinas nicked them to make them look more upmarket. :)

Look forward to seeing your car in the flesh.

I like the Range Rover idea..... Gotta be better than marina or allegro

Tried the paperclip in a-b this morning - cel on the off the on again

Nothing else.... Is that correct - I know there's faults as its on and off when driving

Just done the ab link on the aldl in the relay box in the back

I get a flash of 12. Normal - followed by another 12 normal.

So why oh why is the cel coming on. Is it possible I have a vacuum issue that's kicking an error in the abs unit that's kicking the cel???

Brakes seem good all the time
