Advantage
The 26 year old Spanish driver Jorda joins Jolyon Palmer to become one of Lotus F1 Team's development drivers. Autosport clicky and BBC clicky This news hasn't been received well by everyone with some citing possible marketing reasons rather than racing qualifications being behind the move. Good luck to her. Exploded
Good looking, but sadly no results worth mentioning. I had to look up her name on the web, to know who she is. Good luck though to her. Quote Calypso Rose Rules the World!
LotusLeftLotusRight
What possible marketing reasons? That seems like a terribly sexist comment to me. Still she will look good on the grid holding the proper drivers' umbrellas. Lewis is single again isn't he?
NedaSay
I'm all about getting more diversity on the grid and there are only a few female drivers out there and the sharpest one Beitske Visser has been signed by Redbull and she's being groomed nicely if carefully by Helmut Marko. All the swiss driving ladies Rahel Frey, Simona de Silvestro, Cindy Alleman... are now deemed to old and have gone pro in GT. Katherine Legge is doing her thing in endurance and has a pro driver contract in the US. Carmen Jorda was available and probably brought funding still I would expect Enstone to not make it as big as this, it looks like a PR stunt. her former competitors are pissed and probably with cause as they were outmatching her badly but the thing is they are a dime a dozen and she talented or not so is pretty much one of a kind and lotus needs all the attention it can get. Besides a development driver is just that a driver which is going to be developed, she wont develop the car, Lotus still has guys in the dark doing that Nico Prost is still a GENII driver and has done a lot of simulation at factory Jolyon Palmer will get a lot of mileage there too and Carmen Jorda will have to learn the basics and probAbly will find a home in a GENII supported team in F3 or GP3. Vulcan Grey
Of course we should only talk about her merits as a driver, but since she hasn't won any races, or scored any points... "I know a non-points scoring car when I see one, and I can't score any points in this!!!" -Carmen Jorda Quote Travis Vulcan Grey 89SE
Advantage
It's fair to say that many drivers have an unfair leg-up into top teams courtesy of sponsorship or just a bucket load of cash to the detriment of other, more successful, racing colleagues. Our very own Pastor could well be accused of this. If this were "Colin Jorda" then maybe we wouldn't be so cynical and just accept that someone has brought something of monetary value to the team and that their outright speed and ultimate talent were about to be nurtured by Enstone. molemot
The "Sniff Petrol" view.... F1 fans reveal outdated views by Sniff Petrol on Friday, February 27th, 2015 Carmen Jorda, yesterday Following news that Lotus is to hire Carmen Jordá as a development driver, Formula 1 fans once again revealed age-old prejudices and outdated views as they took to the internet to criticize the Spanish driver simply because she is shit. ‘In 2015 a driver should not be singled out simply for being shit,’ said gender studies professor Jen der Stoodeez-Prohfessah. ‘These people would not even think of saying these things if Carmen Jordá was good, why do they say them simply because she is shit?’ ‘This shows how much work F1 still has to do at beating prejudice,’ Prof. Stoodeez-Prohfessah continued. ‘It would be nice to think that we had all moved on from childishly focusing on irrelevant details about someone such as their woeful record in GP3.’ Lotus also jumped to defend their new signing after a rough ride from fans. ‘It is offensive and completely irrelevant to focus on Carmen’s lack of ability,’ said a team spokesman. ‘She has joined the team to do a job, and that job is to get photographed looking attractive in our overalls’. Vulcan Grey
In reply to what Advantage has said. I think that if the new driver was "Colin Jorda" and the article that I read were written similarly, but without gender: Although Lotus said in a release that Jorda "has a distinguished racing career," the fact remains that in 10 years of racing, Jorda has never won a race. Further, in her last three years of racing in GP3, she's failed to score a single point and her best finish was 13th place. I think everyone would still be doubtful... However if they had said something like; She has a Mechanical Engineering Degree, with a specialty in automotive vehicle suspension design and calibration, and years of experience working with race teams to fine tune vehicle dynamics in the lower levels of racing, including GP3. Then I would like to think that everybody would be more welcoming. Of course, our perceptions are shaped by the media. We would have no idea who she or any other development driver would be if we weren't told... Maybe the Media shouldn't be allowed to publish headlines such as Former GP3 teammate: 'Carmen Jorda couldn't develop a roll of film, let alone a hybrid F1 car' http://autoweek.com/article/formula-one/former-gp3-teammate-carmen-jorda-couldnt-develop-roll-film-let-alone-hybrid-f1 Hopefully she gives great feedback. to the team. At least more so than Pastor "I crash" Maldonado. And hopefully she brings in more money than Pastor, and less crashing than Pastor.
