S3 Wheel refurb - Suspension/Brakes/Wheels/Hubs/Steering/Geo - The Lotus Forums Jump to content

Hi guys,

I am considering refurbishing my alloy wheels. They are original BBS and I didn't think they looked too bad until A few of you mentioned they were the part of the car that looked like it needed some attention. I accept that gratefully!

So, what are my options?

Here is my car as is.

A few kerb marks, ?tarnished? alloy but no peeling/flaking etc.

I have used wheel cleaners but they make no difference. There are balancing weights stuck on the outside (I guess they should be on the inside?)

Should I

1Just return them to original?

2 Polish the rims

3 polish the rims and blacken the spokes

4 replace wheels entirely with fins

I know Its my choice but I appreciate your collective opinions!

Si

Gold would be nice. If no-one else does, I'll 'shop them for you tomorrow when I'm back in the office :)

I had mine repainted as they have always been. I personally prefer this to the polished rims.

That would be great if you or anyone could. I currently have no photo-shopping or gimping skills!

Having seen your car, I'm with Bibs.

Gold centres would look great IMO, with or without polished rims. You going to DIY, or farm it out? IIRC someone recently had a set done around the Cardiff area for around £450??

I am with ChrisJ original is best. bet then done properly though someone has dimond polished mine in the past and then someone else has put them back but with a cheap job, I am going to have to refurb them properly!
