Well, it's probably a midlife crisis...

Recommended Posts

but I just don't care!:D

I've put my deposit down on a MY12 Evora S, which I'll be picking up after Easter :D

I've had a quick search of the forum, but is there anything I should ask the dealer to do to the car before I pick it up? It's having their used car check-up anyway, but are there any essential mods ( e.g. stone-chip film) that I should get done if the previous owner didn't?

Cheers,

Joe.

(usually ends up being a pub.....well you need sustenance after all that driving)

Good work Joe.

Definitely get the stone chip protection if you can.

Give us a shout if you fancy a meet up and drive, so I can have a look at it.

I don't actually have any pics yet!

Cheers - yes, it's through Lotus Silverstone. I went for a test drive in 60-plate car of theirs, mentioned that I was looking for a MY12 and they mentioned they might have one coming up. So it was never actually on their stock list!

Thanks - I needed something fun and comfortable to get me back in love with B-roads. My previous B-road blaster is now too track focused for that.

Cheers Jimbo, will do.

Without using any fancy quotes as my offshore computer baulks for some reason

Lots of these cars sell without appearing officially so you are not alone.

I've had the film put on all my cars just on the "front bumper" part i.e. below the headlights line and that has been enough.  If you go higher you can't do the panel in one so would have to live with a join or a line, which I personally don't want.  I have had 4 now and all done and maybe only had 1 or 2 minor chips above that level in 5.5 years of Evora motoring using as daily driver so not essential.

Lotus do kits for the sides and a few other minor points and I only seem to get about to the 2 year mark before the plastic gets pitted ahead of the rear wheels. That seems to be the worst wearing area if looking.  That part does the whole side below the door unfortunately but make sure it is actually there and not removed because it was tatty.

Cheers - mine's Carbon Grey with a Paprika interior too :)

Are you sure? MY12 Evora never had paprika, they moved to a full Venom Red interior.

Good choice! Mine is still just as glossy and the red interior hasn't aged a bit.

I hope you don't mind being stared at, I've got used to it now but people stop and stare...

And mine

And mine

Are you used to it yet?

Yes, it does smack of carelessness on my part! I am not sure if asking the dealer for pics will just make the waiting worse!

Wasn't even on my radar TBH but the moment the door opened I was very pleasantly surprised.

It's in SR trim so IIRC has contrasting stitching.

Hmm so - bit of a quandary - do I pay dealer prices for just one new tyre, promise never to do it again and go straight out to play, or save a few quid and arrange a tyre fitting on collection day?

Yes Venom in MY12 - somehow a little bit more subtle than Paprika ;-)

Silverstone prepare their cars pretty well so they should do most things.

Common MY12 problems are:

A post exterior trim coming loose

headlights peeling

passenger door lock sticking especially if not used often (unlocking only opens the drivers door first)

rusty wheel bolts (which is a shame with such lovely wheels)

What happened to the tyre?

It didn't wear out quite fast enough to get replaced not at any cost to me! One on other side would be new vs legal but about ready for replacement...

Doesn't sound good for twistys...

Can anyone recommend any interesting and preferably quiet roads near Silverstone? I'm due to collect my car in just over a week, and I'd quite like to extend my journey home to Suffolk without getting stuck in too much traffic.

Well, today's the day! Right now I'm in danger of exploding with excitement, but I suspect several more hours of public transport will bring me back down to a safer level :)

Anyone got any last minute tips for collection day?

like Bibs said.......

if youre home in under about 4 hours....you've done it wrong.......

and the suns out...........

drive slowly through town(s) looking for the shops with big glass windows

then stare at yourself in the reflection and smile like a Cheshire cat.......
