LotusMiles 6 Report post Posted March 29, 2015 Ive done one of those mad things i.e chance of buying a 420BHP Evora Engine (ok needs a check over and rebuild etc) but good price and thought So agreed on it. Now sensible head kicked in (not being a mechanic) any idea what gearbox I will need to take the power and as mine is IPS, I'm now thinking the torque converter is never going to take it. Anyone fancy a project?
The Pits 3,730 1 Vehicles Report post Posted March 29, 2015 Can we start again from the beginning please? You have an Evora IPS and you've bought a new engine for it? Where from? Or do you mean you're uprating the engine you've already got? Gearbox should be able to take 420bhp, the only issue is for how long. Mechanical sympathy goes a long way with these things. LotusMiles 6 Report post Posted March 29, 2015 Sorry, I will start from the beginning I have a Evora S IPS and i am getting a 2GR-FE engine from Swindon Engines that has supercharger and upgraded to 420bhp (they did the engine upgrades for Lotus GT4 i think) So now I'm thinking what else needs to be upgraded to take the extra power. Yes I know I will need to take the car to a specialist to do the upgrade but I expect the knowledge on here is greater Thanks
TBD 727 2 Vehicles Report post Posted March 29, 2015 The gearbox will be OK. 420bhp is far below the cars limits (and less than the 430 I have from Komotec).
LotusMiles 6 Report post Posted March 29, 2015 Even with torque converter on IPS?
JAWS 354 Report post Posted March 29, 2015 Are you getting it from Swindon or Lotus Alan? Also has that bhp actually been verified? What's wrong with your engine? I'm sure there's a good reason why Lotus didn't sell the GTE (GT350) with this engine and put them back to standard.

I'm sure there's a good reason why Lotus didn't sell the GTE (GT350) with this engine and put them back to standard. They had issues getting it certified on emissions as a manufacturer. Nothing else. And, of course, that AMT gearbox never worked reliably.
domguy 106 Report post Posted March 29, 2015 Komo-tec have informed me that all their power upgrade kits (ev390 ev410 and ev430) all work with the standard Toyota U660E running the lotus TCU software without the need for a TCU remap. Interestingly Lotus engineering advised me that a 10% increase in power "should" be OK however anything more than that would require a TCU reprogramme to match the new engine tourque curve. I am waiting for the Evora 400 TCU software to become available and then looking at all the engine upgrade options (evora 400 retro fit or Komo-tec). I hope that helps
domguy 106 Report post Posted March 29, 2015 After my GTE was rebuilt (running the 350hp engine and IPS) it was presented for its IVA test together with a untouched GTE, which was running the Swindon engine and AMT. Mine passed first time the other GTE failed on exhaust noise, not on emissions.

I'm getting it from Swindon, nothing wrong with my engine, just thought might be interesting to drop Swindon engine in and then can always put in back to original when I want to sellAny recomendations for me to use to do the upgrade etc
Bibs 8,099 4 Vehicles Report post Posted March 29, 2015 Whereabouts would you like it to be done? Obviously the factory could do it but they're currently on six weeks lead time for the workshop. You've also got ES Motorsport in Hempnall who know the brand well but I'm not sure how many Evora's they've worked on. SWLotus just west of London know the cars well as Steve races an Evora so will know his way around it very well. Let me know if you need any intros or numbers. Yes, I know Dave at ES, so will be speaking with him, but know he is very busy as is Lotus! I will try and get over to chat it over with him in the next few days, but I know he's got start of race season starting next week
The Pits 3,730 1 Vehicles Report post Posted March 29, 2015 Ok if it's a Swindon engine then it really will have 420bhp. Should be an awesome car once it's finished but I don't know of anyone yet willing to pay what it would cost to do properly. Do let us know how you get on. LotusMiles 6 Report post Posted March 30, 2015 Looks like I've agreed the price for the engine, with new set of 420 cams and uprated supercharger pulley and airbox. Now to get them to to give it a rebuild and then start speaking to Dave at ES nicely!

Bruss 253 1 Vehicles Report post Posted April 18, 2015 Hi Alan. Do you have an ecu to go with that motor, or are you having one made as one off?
LotusMiles 6 Report post Posted April 18, 2015 Hi, not got ecu and work gone mad, so no movement on this yet. Have not even had time to go and hassle Dave at ES yet
Bruss 253 1 Vehicles Report post Posted April 18, 2015 I'm very interested in the engine swap project. I may just follow your example, especially if Dave is helping out with yours. The new car is going well . I took it up to Spa a week or so ago and had a play round the circuit in the wet. There was a light covering of snow on the way back out through Malmedy and the Evora didn't miss a beat. Great car. The red one is sold (deposit taken) and I'm just waiting on confirmation of it being picked up on Monday.

Meghani Motorsports 2 Report post Posted May 14, 2015 (edited) Why not just turbo charge your stock engine? http://youtu.be/I3aJvABD1WM Edited May 14, 2015 by Meghani Motorsports
domguy 106 Report post Posted January 1, 2016 Alan, did you get round to swapping your engine over? I'd love to know how you got on, in particular sourcing the right ECU map (from swindon engines presumably?)
C8RKH 3,506 2 Vehicles Report post Posted January 1, 2016 I missed this thread completely and Alan hats off to you Sir for even thinking about this undertaking, let alone, going ahead and buying the engine etc. What a totally awesome car you will have and I for one am a very green and envious Evora owner who could only dream of such an upgrade. Your car will be fantastic and your undertaking is amazing. Well done. I'd offer some mechanical advice, but as the only spanners and tools I ever have in my hands are the chocolate variety, you can guess how good the advice would be. Best of luck with the whole project. Fabulous...
