1987 S3 HCI (turbo ?) whistling

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone

There is a harsh "whistling" that comes from the engine bay when I change gears up at high revs

(from around 4.000 rpm)

I suspect this comes from the turbo , any ideas ?

Regards

Nanardos

Check for leaks around the plenum.

British Fart to Florida, Nude to New York, Dunce to Denmark, Numpty to Newfoundland.  And Shitfaced Silly Sod to Sweden.

Is it defo air hiss or a screaming type of whistle....... If it's screaming - check oil supply.....

Turbo hose popped off is always a favourite ......

It is the screaming type

Short but very loud when I change gears above 4.000 rpm

I was also thinking of turbo worn bearings ?

Anyway thanks everyone for your help

He the hoses off and check for end float in the turbo impeller

Any wobble will be obvious,, make bad noises, and usually go bang in a few hundred miles

Take not he......am I the only one that has issues on iphings !!

On my car, One of the brass fittings in the intake from plenum to the carbs had s slight crack in, obviously only appeared when nailing it.
