Okay, Okay, I finally am doing it!

Okay, well I have gotten tired of messing with all my piggy back systems and have decided to undertake the conversion in earnest. I am well underway! I have managed to splice in and solder the first of the 4 SE connectors onto my Non SE harness. I have the old harness with pins from an Olds Cutlass that I bought for $65USD back in the summer with the SE ECM 1228708. Anyway, I spliced in the harness wires by soldering them firmly then heat shrinking the joint in overlapping fashion to make them as weather proof as possible. I stopped tonight at the "A" connector as I ran in to a little problem. My old NON SE harness didn't have a B4 screened 02 wire in it. Anyone know where I can pick up this signal or is this just a ground wire? On the diagram it shows this end as a dotted line, not sure what that designates. Other than this, all the other wires were spot on to location on my old harness connection and color designation by Lotus to the SE Spec location. I looked thru the whole harness reference and seems there are only a few(like 4 or 5) wires that don't match perfectly. Anyway, here's the start! I also ordered my secondary injector resistor from JAE today. Goal is to have her fired up and problem shot before Xmas. John Welch is sending me some pins and a "start" Chip to get me going when he returns this weekend from Germany.

I can't seem to get this computer to let me upload my pics thru imageshack and my other laptop is at my Mother in Laws til Saturday. I'll keep you posted on my progress.

Okay, well I stepped away for a few minutes and revisited the garage. I made a mistake in where the old harness connectors were. I removed the grey wire retainers and discovered the Letter designations. I was reading them incorrectly and thats' why I thought I didn't have the "screened" 02 wire, but I found it on the "correct" connector!

Pics so far.

By the way, could someone take a close up picture of their secondary injector resistor(wires in and wires out) as well as the harness to the secondary injectors for me? This is something that my Turbo model manual doesn't have in it. Thanks for your help.

Hey Artie,

You didn't happen to buy the SE ECM from the same place you bought the chargecooler and secondary injectors? I ask because I have been looking around by my ECM and found that everything has been disconnected...I am now very worried that someone sold my ECM.

No Graham, I got the ECM from a local junk yard from a 91 Olds cutlass. Is your ECM missing? Everything for the ecm should be there, if it's not, you can get a reman from Oreilly's for 98$ US but you'd need a core. Or you could do as I did and get one for a 91 Olds cutlass as it is the 1228708 unit that you would need, you'd also need a Lotus memcal/chip for it. The only ECM related thing I was going to buy was the injector harness for the secondaries but decided against it as it would have required me splicing in a new connector.

Hi Artie, Graham,

The ECU can be come by verly cheap at microtron, bought mine there as well. ( I had done this fo tind out if the bad spirits came from a bad ECU ) ( They didn't )

BTW I have a brand new non-SE ECU which I bought by mistake, so if anyone is in need of one....

Artie, isn't the inside of both ECU the same ? :P

No, they are different, the circuits are different, although similar, also the data is slightly different. Although the maps are similar, the NON se doesn't operate on the same algorithm of boost/timing/fuel. I have compared many logs of both and the differences are only different by 1 or 2 points, it is enough to make my life problematic when trying to realtime tune the Non SE ecm. I've decided that to maximize my efforts with the car, the SE ECM is the way to do that! I will continue repinning today and hopefully finish the conversion of the wires tonight. All I'll need then is to get the secondary injector resistor and wire it in. Anyone willing to take a few photos of their resistor for me(wires in and out and the injectors)?

Oh how I love responding to my own threads! Anyway, just about finished up wiring the harness terminals just now, but ran into a snag. The "C" block terminal that the pins go into doesn't accept 2 or the pins that I need to insert. They are "blanked" out and now I"m at a standstill. Anyone know where I can get another terminal?

Can the MemCal from the Non SE be used with a replaced SE chip?

Darnel

NO, the data blocks are different, knock threshold, timing etc are different, also no secondary injector circuits to run with the non se engine/ ECM.
