S2 fuel filler neck: plate or paint?

Recommended Posts

My fuel filler necks:

Was going to have them cadmium plated, but he plater told me that on old cars the fuel neck interior tubing would have been lead lined to prevent sparking, and plating would remove this and my car will end up catching fire.

What have others done when refurbishing their fuel filler necks? I think powder-coating is no good because eventually the fuel will eat the paint which in turn ends up in the fuel tank. Maybe Por-15 tank liner? Or should I just plate as others have done and disregard this person's warning?

Mine appear to have been zinc from new. I'm about to have them zinc/ yellow chromate passivated. I can't really see how the passivated zinc is going to cause problems. The acidity from ethanol might have an effect after many years, but so will condensation anyway.
