Remove panel in front of dial pod?

Recommended Posts

Thinking about where to locate new GPS aerial and I figured under the panel on the drivers side of dash? (Equivalent panel to airbag panel)

How does it remove?

It's called an 'Access Panel' in the parts book so I'd imagine it will just pop out with a little pressure.

The one behind the instrument pod tucks in and is secured with Velcro! Just tug at the front edge.

Perfect.

That's the curved piece bending cluster right? What about the flat piece under it?

Pretty much impossible to remove without disassembly of the complete dash.

Ok, better hope there is space under the easy bit for a gps aerial.

Where is the standard one located?

Man, that velcro stuff is everywhere!

What would we do without it, silicone and Liquid Nails?

Yes there is plenty of space to slide one of the magnetic backed aerials in there.you may find the standard ome fits, can't remember though.

I'm surprised the clams aren't held on with it for easy access!

Excellent, that sounds promising... Just need to ensure I can get the wire from there to the headunit.

I also need to get a wire from headunit to one of the A pillars

Its pretty easy to fish the wires across, including up the a pillar.

OK, next question...

Removing A pillar? I believe it's a gentle tug, but not convinced.... Do I pull towards rear of car, or opposite side of car?

I intend to document all this by the way! To help others.

So far I have a list of items required, will take some pics as I go.

I cheated as I have done with all my cars and just fed it under the edge of the door seal. I find a tea spoon handle an ideal tool!

Interesting.

Not sure how easy that area is to get to without removing the dash.

that area is directly under the velcro'd flat panel under the binnacle that you asked about removing in the original post. Easy!

Ahhh I thought the flat panel was difficult to remove, as per TBDs post above?

The curved one is velcro'd, tried that tonight.
