Sport 350 wing uprights

Recommended Posts

Hi folks, I know the wing thing has been done to death but I'm going to fit a slightly larger carbon wing

and want the uprights to look like S350 ones. Is there a diagram or technical drawing about or will I have to just go off pictures on the internet?

They will be in 6082T6 ally and will be machined so no Stevie Wonder style drilling or filing. I intend to attach it without any spreader feet on the topside but reinforce it from underneath so it is super sturdy. (It will have to be!)

Here's the wing,

it's attachment stubs on the underside are the exact dimensions for the rear hatch (rather convenient) and the end plates are my own copies of the Reverie motorsport wing on their site as I preferred them to the thick and heavy carbon originals, mine are 1/3 the weight and are a sandwich of twill gf and kevlar.

Cheers

I can't help you with tech drawings, but Kylie refurbished her wing years ago and posted some good close-up pics which may be of some help, at this clicky.

Hi there,

I have some genuine brand new S350 uprights if you are interested? Still in packet and unused due to abandoned project. £100 each, pm me if interested.

Regards

David

Hi Dave, thanks, but I'm after the general dimensions really, I was going to fabricate the parts as I suspect rear visibility is equally an issue with the S350 wing as with my S4 which cuts right across my field of view. I intended to raise the wing by 20-30mm so would need a whole new part.

Also, my wing has some support slots which would need to be encompassed into the top of the uprights (hence the extra height) which would allow me to slightly adjust the angle of attack.

Cutting a 5mm groove into the top would keep it subtle as opposed to say, bolting it to the side of an upright as I see most commonly. I intend it to look as factory as possible without looking Heath Robinson.

I'm even looking at titanium instead of ali but I suspect the plate would be well out of my price range.

I'm also after the large LOTUS lettering decal I see on the top of motorsport wings if you know where to acquire it?

Cheers

Dom

Hi Dom,

I might be able to help you out on the upright dimensions as I made some a few years back slightly higher and sloped back a tad more. The wing was also bolted through the side. Main problem you'll find is locating the right thickness aluminium as a sheet or block as they start out pretty big. It will end up costing you more than buying some S350 uprights!

Hi Dom,

I found a few old pictures of a wing I made many years ago, It looks a bit like what you are trying to achieve isn't it?

Are you sure you want it higher? It might be the angle of the photo. Here's another photo from rear, let me know what you think?

The standard 350 wing on the standard 350 uprights doesn't cause any rear view problems. You see everything between the wing and the car. Nothing is obscured by the wing or uprights.

well, if that's the case then it addresses one of my problems. On the S4 wing I get the top third obscured. If I can clear that area I have a view of the road behind and can see whoever is right behind me AND at a distance and on an incline. Maximum visibility is the aim.

I had a Sport350 on loan for 3 months and never found the wing to be an obstruction at all :)

Funny. I don't consider the S4 wing to be a problem at all.

GT3 transom and no wing! Best combo for max visibility?

He's racing his car hence why he wants a big wing!

Hi Ramjet, most of the time it isn't in the way but in any kind of incline where I'm looking up a little it is. Plus with a helmet on and harness and cage I am unable to move at all so I have to address even the slightest obstruction.

Cheers
