Missing Tensioner Sleeve

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys

Doing the timing belt on my GT3 And have noticed that the sleeve on the current tensioner is missing. What effect would this have?

The previous belt was a bit whiney, i thought it might have been a bit over tensioned. Would the missing sleeve make it whine? If anything i'd have thought a missing sleeve would mean you couldn't tension it enough?

Yes, with the sleeve missing it may result in the tensioner not being able to take enough slack out of the belt.

Hmmm, do you know for sure it's a 2.0?

Fairly certain. It's a GT3 and the exhaust cam looks to have a green dot pulley on it. I'd say it's more likely that the sleeve has been left off at some point. Perhaps the assembly was replaced at some point and they didn't realise/forgot to transfer it. Or maybe it's aftermarket and the pulley is thicker? It does look quite chunky.

I'll see if I can get a pic soon. The last belt seemed to be tensioned fine, too tight if anything.

Gotta be a bigger bearing then. I don't think a standard one would get it tight enough. Very interested to see a pic.

The diameter should be 70mm. The standard bearing is 63mm.

That's got a sleeve. Look for the circlip at the back.

You know, I reckon the sleeve could be the bit around the outside.

My bad. I thought I'd be able to see a clear line between them.
