Saw a camo suv this morning near the factory but first impression was very similar to a later Freelander.

Hard to tell with all those black and white swirls all over it but didn't look like what you would think Lotus suv would look like style wise.

Could have been something from a different project down the road at Engineering or a mule of some sort.

Could also just be a chassis/powertrain mule. Nobody will be looking closely at a Land Rover mule, they are far too ubiquitous. And where was your smartphone camera mate? Your spy pics reflexes need sharpening. 😤😝

Could have possibly been the Geely Boyue/Emgrand they do look similar but do they share the Volvo SPA which supports the new hybrid powertrains.

Good news will put the company into profit, which means new cash flow for new sport cars, every sport car manufacturer are building SUVs or are about to for the same reason so why not Lotus.

Fair game, I actually hadn't thought about that being a reason for sport car manufacturers making SUVs.

Nonetheless I wanted to make a little post about this as I'm intrigued to see how a Lotus SUV will turn out. No doubt it will be completely unique vs every other SUV out there - Lotus have always been spot on at making their cars stand out. Always reason to be proud to be British really!

If they can stick to their patent design and the engineering behind it, it should look something like this:

Autocar drawing specialist made this sketch up based on it:

The 'Patent' design looks like an F-Pace - and Autocar renderings are never accurate! As per other comments though it seems SUV's  are now de-rigueur so seems bound to happen......

Right!

That's just a Q7 with a bodykit. 😛

This is (was) the Lambo SUV: maxresdefault.jpg

I have made many mistakes in my life. Buying a multiple Lotus is not one of them.

Not much ‘Sports’ in that though, TBF. Plenty of ‘Utility’ though (if you owned your own oil well).

i Have sat my bum in one LM02 once in my life I can assure you there's no utility in that vehicle... it is not comfy, not functional, cargo capacity is somewhat limited  to 2 barrels of crude oil. ok towing capacity I haven't checked

Completely agree. Worked very well for Porsche and I hope it works as well for Lotus.

We don't have to buy/drive the SUVs, but we can enjoy the sports cars funded by their profits (just like happened with Porsche).

That is just lazy design, this is a GTC lusso propped up on big fat tire.

Thanks for digging up the thread.

So now let’s imagine Lotus nail the designs and have free access to the parts bin at Volvo. It could be a huge success and be the car that puts Lotus on the map and allow it to flourish just like Porsche did all those years ago.

Except the market is crowded when Porsche Cayenne only had the Range Rover and the Lincoln Navigator as a Luxury SUV with emphasis on the UV and no sporting pretence back in the day, as I remember it they had pretty much 2 of playing pretty much all alone in their sandbox. I do still think the Lotus SUV will be a turning point in Lotus development if they can reach their target of 10,000 vehicle per annum it would be massive shot in the arm, I do think China will get the bulk of these, but with Volvo support network in North America and continental Europe Lotus could manage to sell a not insignificant number if they nail the design and execution. This car needs to be flawless out of the box!
