Capacitor across brake light switch

Recommended Posts

Found a 1 micro farad capacitor put across the brake light switch whilst debugging a blown fuse. Not sure why this would be needed there so open to suggestions before I remove it permanently!

Any ideas as to why this would have been added?

The only reason I can think of is to prevent radio interference, ie a click when the lights go on/off.

Rather odd though!

On the pedal switch Charles? Never heard of that before.

Yes on the pedal switch. Not noticed any rf interference since I removed it. I cannot think of a reason so it's off. Arcing at the switch contacts is not likely to be an issue!

1uF is a very small value so I can only think it was for RF suppression for some reason or another? Maybe somebody tried it and when it made no difference couldn't be bothered to take it off again.
