Excel Clutch

Recommended Posts

Been offered a virtually new Clutch for my Excel from a top bloke (thanks John). Just needed to check if an Éclat Clutch will fit an Excel.

My old man can't remember if its the same as they changed to Toyota running gear on the Excel.

I could try and dig out the specs but a quick suggestion is to pop to SJ webiste and compare part numbers. I suspect they are different as the centre (friction) plate in an Excel cross references to a Toyota part.

For £25, you could have the existing plate refurbished locally (road opposite MrClutch off Mile Cross)

I am not an expert but there are two different Eclat clutch assemblies.

The early 2.0Litre 907 engine had different components to the later 2.2Litre 912 engine.

If it is from a 2.2 Eclat then there are several common components with the Excel clutch assembly listed.

Ok thanks. The Clutch is slipping like an absolute son of a bitch. Can't give the car any wellie cause it just revs and goes nowhere!

New clutch then (or refurbed one).

Hi Kimbers, I have one for a 907 and one for a 912, once you find out if they an be used let me know, both are good with loads of life on them. As I said before the 907 only did a couple of hundred miles, the 912 cam out of my S3 which I restored and was only changed as the replacement engine came with a new one and the original had done may 3k.

Why aren't any of these great sounding garages anywhere to be found in sunny Essex? I'm sure the same locally for me would have an extra 0 zero added.

My clutch seemed to be on the way out about a year ago when I had unexpected revs in third when flooring it. Hasn't happened since? Did my service including fluid top ups help?

Let me know how you got on replacing the clutch as it must surely be just a matter of time for mine.

For clutch re-lining, have a look for specialists that advertise as doing truck & other commercial clutch re-lining. There's a decent market for commercial re-lining but most domestic cars stuff is simply of the replace & throw away mentality.
