glynherron 9
Hi Guys will someone just fill in the blanks for me here...... I thought on dip that the outer 2 came on and on main beam both the outers and inners came on. does this relay enable something different? Thanks Glyn
GordonMasson 128
One thing to look out for guys.... check that your wiring loom can cope with the extra current ... just a thought. i uprated my loom to be on the safe side. Jonathan 13
That's what you get. Glyn, you're right - On main beam there are only ever 2 lights on due to the relay fitted being single pole. Fit a double pole relay and you get 4 It's much better for night driving and the wiring is already fitted for this, however I did fuse it on my car (belt and braces). With auto design I think they work around the fact that the bulb will act as a crude type of fuse, which it can, but it doesn't help much if a fault develops before the bulb in the circuit Quote facebook = [email protected]
lotusshaney 0
All of the wiring to do this is already in the car. Infact all USA cars have this relay in to enable all 4 lights so the wiring itself is designed to cope with the load. However I agree with Jon in that the front lights are not fused and that it might be a good idea to fuse the feed to both the sidelight and headlight relays. I have made some piggy back relay holders that plug into the existing holders. They are fused and are easy to install and remove.
glynherron 9
So normaly (before the double pole relay), when switching from dip to main beam, the outers go out and the inners come on? Mine must have already had the relay cos on main beam, all 4 have always lit.... FYI I've wired mine so that on dip, all 4 come on as well. This doesnt seem to make a great deal of difference, although apart from looking more inpressive, some cars do move over easier. With regard to the MOT, I know that my mod is only leagal between certain years and mine is outside of those, but my MOT guy didnt know (I actually asked him), and a few mates that are in the police (and traffic department) didnt know either. I've run like this for a year now and now problems. Glyn

Jonathan 13
For some reason I thought you had Dave's S4s which probably had the mod already done. I don't want to buy it at the moment, but you never know - winter's not over yet If I were in the look for one I'd be over quick as a shot. Have you tried any dealers / speacilists for a quick sale ? ramjet 1,086
The relay is an easy part to get at any auto elec. You may struggle to get an answer in this thread as it was from 2006. This is the relay I used. Had no trouble with it at all. Quote All we know is that when they stop making this, we will be properly, properly sad.Jeremy Clarkson on the Esprit.
