I can confirm that Dog ownership is more costly than Lotus ownership. Really bad last 24 hours with my little boy. He’s 13 next week and 48 hours ago was as right as rain. Yesterday morning was the first time ever he didn’t want food. Got home from work yesterday and his water bowl hadn’t been touched. Could hardly stand, zero energy and stomach was contracting sporadically. At 10.30pm last night decided to phone a vet and have a chat. Obviously nothing open so decided a visit to an emergency Vet 30 minutes drive away was necessary. Left the vets at 2am this morning after blood tests and scans and left the dog there on a drip overnight having more tests done after I’d left. I then had to be back there at 7am this morning to pick him up and transfer him to our local vet who would then continue the care. After medication and more tests I need to pick him up later today as he now been rehydrated and has nibbled at food.

Scan shows a tumour and a very enlarged prostate. He’s coming home as long as he can drink and eat and basically wag his tail and still have some quality of life but feeling pretty low right now. They are such a massive part of our lives and the very best part of any family. Been dreading this part of ownership.

@mayevora Ian. Sorry to hear, we lost Hektor a few weeks ago now and know how hard it is. ☹️. Make him comfortable and hope the tail keeps wagging.

Sad to hear. How was he when you picked him up again?
Don't despair just yet, it's not unheard of for a pet to live a considerable time in comfort even after a diagnosis like that. Especially if they respond positively to the medication, we've had plenty of cases like that in the shelter. Either way, I'm sure you'll make the best out of it and he'll be wagging his tail every time he sees you. 💝

He’s home, comfortable but understandably sleepy and quiet. He’s at least eating small amounts again and drinking something (not much but something) The Meds have worked at this time so I’m feeling a happier chap. It’s likely to be a short term thing but every day/week will be a bonus.

I am so sorry to hear that Ian.

My girl stopped eating properly, she got confused and incontinent and we realised we were keeping her alive for ourselves not her. I held her in my arms with Wendys as she passed at home and it was one of the most painful things I have every done, but she deserved it. 19 Years of dedicated family protection from Post people, delivery drivers and other dogs passing meant I couldn't let her go to sleep at the Vets and they came here. 

She now sits here in my Office in Pencil and in the Study on the wall in Acrylic courtesy of my Artist wife. 2 years on I still speak to her and miss her. 

I hope you get much more time with him and give him lots of hugs and love.

Thursday was the weekly training day as usual for 'Little Madam' Charis as we work on her reactivity issues - a legacy of acquiring a 'Covid pup' and not being able, at the time, to embark upon the full socialisation regime we normally follow.

A huge culture shock for 'Big Madam' Macha though. Instead of spending the day having me all to herself as in previous weeks, she spent the day at training school as well,  .

I've detected a bit of interaction going on between the two of them when they're out together, with Macha seemingly taking on the role of 'protector' for Charis who in turn becomes bolder and more reactive as a result.

Taken out individually, they're both fairly chilled - in fact, our trainer Morgan at Klass K9s has described Charis in the past as 'an angel' and 'a model pupil'. These descriptions were not forthcoming this time though as things were decidedly more lively from what I can gather,  . A bit of work still to do then but we will get there, of that I'm sure.

When I collected them late afternoon, Charis was in her customary post-training 'seen it all before' mode but Macha was all over me like a rash, as if she'd been away for a month. By the time we got home however, she'd gone in the huff and pretty much ignored me all evening, until she heard the rattle of the food bowls being filled that is,  . Better not tell her just yet that she's already booked in again for this coming Thursday.

Operation day. Just dropped him at the vets. He’s been in really good spirits the last couple of months. Back having short walks, eating, drinking and playing - He’s having a Tumour removed this morning though. He’s 13 so really hoping he makes it through the aesthetic ok.  🤞

My old girl has just had a mast cell tumour removed from her back. This is the 7th time she's been under the knife. She's 9 years old and I'm always amazed by how quickly she recovers. 

My wallet may be empty but my heart remains full of love
