Gold FFM C8RKH Posted April 21, 2016 Gold FFM Report Share Posted April 21, 2016 So how does it work with BMW or Porsche then Jay? I've never owned a car with a factory warranty before so never paid that much attention. There was a case on Pistonheads a while ago concerning a guy with an M3. His car had gone bang, BMW then refused to repair it because he had taken it on track. BMW's warranty stipulated they did not cover the car for use in "competition or timed events", however a track day is NOT a competition and on the track days in question timing was strictly prohibited. I cannot recall the outcome of the case, I think BMW did honour it in the end. silverfrost
BMW use to rent Rockingham race track in Lincolnshire, They used to demo the cars and potential customers, mainly for company car use etc they went for a day of thrashing all the new models round the track, apparently the cars where going through a crazy amount of tyres each day, as you would imagine large engined M series been thrashed by Joe Blogs. I bet BMW did tell the future owners of these cars about what history they had before selling them. ! 1 Quote A

Seeing as BMW sell "M" models as being capable track cars, it seems ludicrous that they would then not want to honour damage which was not caused by being a mechanical numpty - it was a genuine part failure. Anyway, don't want to derail this thread. I'll be phoning AIB this morning to see if they're any better Quote James Martin (JayEmm) Director of Photography & Car Enthusiast Follow my Lotus adventure online! www.jayemm.com
Gold FFM JayEmm Posted June 3, 2016 Gold FFM Report Share Posted June 3, 2016 To follow this up, I eventually went with Direct Line for my insurance. They were reasonable, easy to deal with, the specialists I phoned around all asked me many many silly questions - like how much experience do I have driving the car that I haven't yet bought - only to give me quotes which were much higher than DL. They also included business cover, drive other cars cover (not everyone does), all I needed. I may try the specialists again next year, may have more luck then. Gold FFM C8RKH Posted June 3, 2016 Gold FFM Report Share Posted June 3, 2016 I had the same problem with the specialists Jay when I bought my Evora last year. I went with them as I wanted the assurance, but to be honest, this year, I just found them hard to deal with, expensive and actually, not that inspiring to deal with really. I went with who I did solely because they gave me free track day insurance. Quote I came into this world screaming and covered in someone elses blood. I'll probably leave it in the same way.
